All,

I'm in the market for a new DVD player for my Phillips HDTV. The issue is that I only have component inputs for my TV (no HDMI).

Are there any DVD players that upconvert to 720 or 1080i over component cables?

Thanks for the info!

Joe

Not that I know of, but don't put too much emphasis on upconversion. Half the time it seems to look worse because the scalers inside the unit are worse than those inside your TV.

What's more important is the quality of the player, in video and audio processing. Outputting 480p will look just fine. Oppo makes some nice players.

Please keep in mind that I am in no way condoning or recommending this. I'm only providing basic common knowledge.
If a person removes the CSS encryption from a commercial DVD the copy w/o the CSS will be able to be upscaled over component. The Oppo DV-980H to 1080p and the DV-970D to 1080i

Interesting.

Not that I'm considering doing this, but how would one be remove the CSS encryption? Would you have to make a copy of the DVD?
