Yes, but the last paragraph reads: "The HD DVD format will still be available at Blockbuster in 250 of its stores as well as via the internet."

Sound to me like they are still supporting HD-DVD to me.

Keep in mind that the very brief news is from the BBC in the UK and isn't a US news report. Here is a link to a US news report that was posted on AVS. It contains more information.

Just another guess. I say we all put a hold on guessing until a year from now. By then according to many sources the war will be over. Of course both camps could have been wiped out or both might have come to agree to co-exist.

Check out this article that quotes Joseph Taylor, executive VP/COO of Panasonic Corporation of North America with: "I'm giving a very politically incorrect answer. I think the battle is over. I think Blu-ray has won."

Mr. Taylor hasn't a clue.
The format war will rage on for a long time. I'm talking at least several years.

Here's an interesting article from Electronic House:
"Corporate giants Amazon.com and Microsoft are sponsoring the 1,000 HD DVD Indies Project to help get more HD films authored and distributed on HD DVD."
The full article is here: [Link: electronichouse.com]

I think it's interesting no because it will bring 1,00 more HD movies or the indie movies will be amazing HD products. I think it's news because Microsoft & Amazon are the sponsors, period. Here are 2 big time entities throwing their collective weight behing HD!
