Anybody own this player? When you power it up, does it just power up and wait for the next command? Or does it start to automatically do something?

I had the Sony DVP-CX995V and couldn't stand the autoplay feature not working as it should. Sony admitted to the defect and are refunding my purchase.

Don't want to have the same problems if i purchase the Pioneer DVF727.

Responses appreaciated.

The Pioneer doesn't behave like the Sony fortunately (I have both).

The Sony 985 and 777 won't start playing the last disc loaded automatically on power up so long as you had stopped the last disc playing where it can resume playback prior to shutting down the unit. It's a very simple workaround to the autoplay option not addressing DVD's, only CD's. Has been smooth sailing for me in this regard since I purchased my first 3 985's a few years ago. Have 5 of them now. Couldn't be happier.

Thanks Lowpro, I wish this workaround worked on the 995 and nobody at Sony could recommend an alternative player. Where can I get a 985?

You can purchase the 985 off of EBay. If you do a search there right now for the Sony DVP-CX985V there are 7 up for bid from sellers with 99% positive feedback or better. Most at 100% actually. Plenty to choose from there. Should be relatively easy to win one for around $150-$200. You can also try craigslist.org which is a great way to find things locally. I bought my last 985 off craigslist from someone who just happened to work 10 minutes from my house. Met him outside his workplace one day to close the deal. Talk about convenient! :-P

Thanks for the feedback Lowpro. I'll research the 985.
