Hey Paul,

I've used several combinations of equipment. Probably the fastest and easiest was a simple Sony VCR hooked up to a JVC DVD recorder. This is great to make a simple copy.

If you have only minor editing you can burn to a DVD+/-RW. That can then go to your PC for simple editing with "Womble MPEG Video Wizard" (info at [Link: videohelp.com]). Depending on which version you get you can either create the new DVD in the program or use the MPEG2 output in your favorite DVD authoring program. The good thing about Womble is that it does not recompress (i.e., degrade image quality)

For complex editing I would capture analog to my PC as an AVI (720x480 using the DV codec). You have complete control of the edit with fancy transitions, effects, etc. without image degradation. You can then output to a suitable format that your DVD authoring program will accept.

Hope that helps,
Don

When in doubt, mumble.
