I know it is scheduled now (not sure on the date) but nothing was announced when the DVD came out.

Those of you using netflix how satisfied are you with it's HD-DVD selection and availability? Thinking about signing up now that I've got a HD-DVD player and no one in town rents them.

Yeah, I know - I already bought Cars on DVD assuming it wasn't going to be out on BD any time soon. Whoops!

In fact, I'm pretty safe buying any Sony movie in SD knowing it won't be out on HD-DVD anytime soon, if ever. The one that hurt was the Sopranos season six part one. I bought the SD version, then a few months later bought the HD-DVD version. Ouch.

well the same is true for Fox, Disney, LG... all the studios that ar4e BD exclusive The only Disney ones I really want are the classics like Snow White, Lady & the Tramp etc. Might be a while before Disney releases them on Blu-Ray. The only movie I am really upset about not being on HD-DVD that came out on Blu-Ray is Casino Royale. And I do mean really upset. There are other titles I would like to own. But not enought to buy a Blu-Ray player (yet). As for Lionsgate- that upsets me a little, but not a lot. I have Total Recall and Stargate on a THX Optimum edition, which is similar to a Superbit. I can live with that. Question Anthony, When will the BD camp finalizeBD- Java and make them mandatory. Oh wait. I found the answer. October 31st of this year @ Gizmodo: [Link: tinyurl.com]

Disney is much more then just the classic cartoons When will the BD camp finalizeBD- Java and make them mandatory. Oh wait. I found the answer. October 31st of this year @ Gizmodo: no, it was finalized and mandatory before BD came out. What will be mandatory Oct 31 is a second video decoder on all new models.

My collection of HD-DVDs is growing now that I own something that will play them. I just wish I could find a recent release that I haven't already seen on regular DVD.
King Kong Serenity Phantom of the Opera Batman Begins Troy
I would own more, but the local stores have such limited selections.

I would own more, but the local stores have such limited selections. Good picks. King Kong, Phantom and Batman Begins are 3 of the best. Add Chronicles of Riddick for great PQ and sound if that is your type of movie. Latest count- I have 65 HD-DVD's, including my latest acquisitions: The Ultimate Matrix Planet Earth

So is the Chronicals HD-DVD actually better than the DVD version? More extras? Better sound? Yes, I know it'll be higher resolution. I enjoyed watching Phantom in HD-DVD but didn't think it's sound was any better than when I'd watched it in on DVD.

Never owned or watched the standard version. So I don't know if the HD-DVD version has extras not on the standard version. It does have DD+ and DTS. So I'm guessing the sound might be better.

There is a "Buy 2 Get 1 Free Blu-Rays!" going on at DVD Empire web site.
I would link the website but I don't won't this message to be misconstrued as a advertisement. But only a announcement that may enable the forum's Blu-Ray collectors to save a dollar or two.

I'm already up to 16 Blu-Ray titles... and I still don't even have anything to play them on! I was planning on using a PS3 for playback - figure it's one of the safest first generation players to get due to years of expected firmware updates - but actually getting one has been impossible.
So, there on my shelf sits a little section of these compact cases with a wide range of movies that I haven't even seen yet (in any format).
I guess the egg really did come before the chicken... :-)
So, anyone else into the high def game yet?
