Hello all,

I have a Samsung DVD-vr335 dvd recorder / hifi vcr. What is the best way to connect these units? (combos)
I don't have a TV/receiver that has Component or DVMI inputs. My receiver has S-Video and digital (Fiber) and Analog (RCA) inputs. My TV (Sony Trin) has S-video and separate RCA video/audio inputs.

The DVD/VCR has many inputs and outputs. I have the plan RF-cable connected for analog channels and for it to sync the time. I also have S-video and Fiber to the receiver, and lastly I have a plain Audio / Video cable to the TV.
(This way depending on what I'm watching I can change the input on the TV to watch a movie without the receiver being on).

But, when I'm recording to DVD from my PVR (DVR) system the the resolution seems way inferior to normal. I think it may be recording from the cable instead of the S-Video or a higher quality connection.

Any better way to segment the connections. I have everything setup in the menus on the DVD/VCR.

Thanks
Rick

OK, I'm not too sure as to what you want to do. Program your Harmony to control them? Try posting in the Harmony Forum if that's what you want.

" I think it may be recording from the cable instead of the S-Video or a higher quality connection."

Why don't you check, then get back to us.
Or, indicate how the recorder is connected.

Thanks for the response.. I'm not sure what else to include.. Coaxel Cable from DVR to DVD to TV. S-vidio and Fiber out and to the receiver.

When I record from the DVR it seems to go through the coaxel not s-video..

What is the best way to connect these. Also, should I split the DVD/VCR inputs into the receiver? (Currenly VCR runs through DVD function)

Also, another question how do I setup the auto time function? It does not seem to set itself. I have to manually set everything. Coaxel is just plain analog cable. DVR/PVR is Dish Network superdish. (Not HD)

Screen quality is very good from dish network and on the DVR. Copying from DVR to DVD looses quality.

Thanks
Rick

from what you've said it sounds like you have your DVR connected to your DVD player only by coax. if this is the case than needless to say this is the only connection your DVD can record from.

if i understand your system i would set it up as follows.

-Coax cable from wall to cable box.
-S-video from Cable box to DVD recorder.
-Anolog audio (red/white) from cable box to DVD-recorder
-S-video from DVD Recorder to TV.
-Anolog audio (red/white) from DVD recorder to TV
-Digital Audio (optical or coax-this is an audio coax cable-not the same as the coax cable coming from your wall) from DVD Recorder to Reciever.
-i would also run an Anolog audio cable (red/white) from the TV to your reciever, that way you can play ANY audio from the TV via your reciever if you want.

all the best! Christian

"Coaxel Cable from DVR to DVD to TV. S-vidio and Fiber out and to the receiver. "

You're sending the RF output of the DVR to a DVD player (with no inputs)?
Why?

S-video and fiber out (of what?) to an amp?
Why are you sending video to the amp?

being a DVD/VCR combo it should have inputs to record to the VCR and allow cable pass through to your TV.

Check the back of the DVD recorder and make sure you have the output from the PVR connect to INPUTS on the DVD recorder. I failed to look close enough the first time I hooked up my DVD recorder, and hooked up the INPUT A/V jacks to an INPUT on my TV. OF course it didn't work.

Read the DVD recorder manual. In your DVD recorder's RECORD menu you should be able to tell it what INPUT (source) you want to record off of. The choices will probably be INPUT1, INPUT2, ANTENNA. INPUT1 may be for jacks on the front of the DVD recorder.

The best cables to use from the PVR are probably going to be Svideo, and left/right (white/red) audio cables. If your DVD player has Component inputs, and your PVR has component outputs, then use those along with the audio cable.

Thanks all for your responses.. My system has been down and have not been able to respond.

I will take all of your comments and do some testing and hopefully figure out what solution worked the best. And post.

Thanks again,
Rick
