Can you help me

I had some difficulty copying a movie DVD using software like 1ClickDVD, ICopyDVDs2 etc and DVD43

Is it possible for the attempted copying process to leave the original movie DVD very badly scratched and marked, with hundreds of tiny scratch marks actually onthe original DVD?

Thanks for any assistance that you may be able to provide

Uh, I've never actually had a problem ruining an original DVD while reading it.

Is your DVD drive OK?

I think that is what you mean.

some dvds are using new encyption like invalid dvd structures...(madagascar...basic instinct 2) but the good news is that a good css decrypting software can get around it....i use AnyDVD by Slysoft myself and i have not found a dvd yet that i couldnt copy.....

What I do for invalid DVD structures is first rip to hard drive with DVDFab Decrypter. It will decode the entire DVD to the hard drive. The problem occurs when I try to make an ISO of it, usually with DVD Shrink. Shrink has a problem with the invalid data structure. The fix is simple, though. Download FixVTS, drag the problematic VOB into it, and run it for the entire disc. This will repair the data and allow you to burn it.

I will never use anything like AnyDVD or that I must pay for. The freeware exists.

But I don't think that this is molson's problem. I think something must be wrong with his DVD drive, such as a piece of debris wedged in there that is scratching his DVD.

dvdshrink is an OLD engine that was bought out by ahead software and implemented in nero recode...
dvddecryptor and the like are in fact good programs but are no longer in production.....dvddecryptor hasnt had a new release in some time now....dont be cheap and support the software developers... there have been at least 1 or 2 updates a month with anydvd...which is far better support then what you get with the freeware

another plus from using any dvd as opposed to ripping the whole dvd to your harddrive is that its alot faster.. there is no waiting to store the whole thing on your computer, then you must burn to a disc... while with any dvd you get real time decryption as the movies is being compressed or burned..... i dont reccommednd compressing movies too much... i buy double layer discs so i get the full quality of the video and audio..

I didn't say DVD Decrypter. That is no longer useful. I said DVDFab Decrypter. It is created by Fentango Software, a Chinese company I think. It is updated regularly.

Double Layers are way too expensive for me to justify. I just get rid of the previews and special features I don't want and the compression is fine.

I'd also rather go to the HD first. Gives me a copy there too.

The Freeware has just as good support.

actually i just downloaded and tried that dvdfab software and although it is good it just takes too long... but that may be cuz of the fact that it is more like a teaser program just let you get the feel for it and then purchase the complete program which is DVDFAB platinum... so you see the suppprort for this program is most likely generated by people who see a use for it buy trying the freebee and then purchase the whole thing.... the freebee doesnt let you rip individual chapters... just the whole dvd... more functionality comes with the purchase

Use DVDFab to rip the entire thing. Then use Shrink to set chapters.

Do you use deep analysis? Sometimes I re-author and take only the movie and get 100% compression. I use dual layers occasionally but they're pretty expensive.

Dumb Question,

How is that Sony and such can put newer and newer protection schemes on a DVD and yet by 4 year old DVD player can still read it?

Much in the same way that your computer can still play it, just not copy it.

"Much in the same way that your computer can still play it, just not copy it."

I thought I read that one of the schemes was to introduce bad sectors or something to that effect on the original production DVD.

I guess I would think that this would impact playback as well as copy capability.
