What DVD Megachanger would you recommend nowadays?

I currently have the multisystem / multivoltage equivalent of the Kenwood 5050, which is apparently out of production. I wanted the 5900, but it wasn't available overseas in a multivoltage version. Now that I'm back home in the States, I would like to know what's available (not restricted to Kenwood, by the way). Thanks in advance for any information!

Currently the only Megachanger in production is the Sony 400 disk DVP-CX995V though you might be able to find a Pioneer 300 disk or Sony DVP-CX985V.

I own 4 Sony DVP-CX985V 400-disc DVD changers and have not had a single problem with any of them. They are in use daily. Three of them I've had for a couple years now. In fact, I'll be purchasing a 5th at the end of the year. They can be had online for between $250 and $275 dollars. I will never purchase the current model 995V. HDMI upconversion is not a selling point for me for starters. Component video looks great! Secondly, the 995V changers will not remain stopped at a resume point after you power down, then power back up the changer. The changer will automatically begin DVD playback from the resume point when the unit powers up. This is just bad design. No two ways about it. When stopping my Sony DVP-CX985V changers at a resume point however, powering down, then powering back up again, the disc just sits at the resume point. Playback does not automatically resume. As for the Disc Explorer interface built into these units, if you don't find another solution prior to purchasing these changers you only have yourself to blame. A few minutes of searching on the web or a stop over at AVSForum's will tell the story there. As such, I've been using my Philips ProntoProNG TSU7000 remote for disc selection via DVD cover image since day one avoiding the headaches many have with the Disc Explorer interface. If you are going to use a changer I highly reccomend looking at either an Escient or VideoRequest unit for an interface.

I have a project without one and you can read from others all about that. I just finished a project with the Escient DVDM100 and a Sony 777es. Not a kalidescape but really cool, definetely more $$, but I will not do another changer without a similiar set up.
When good enough is not good enough.

Do you know the difference between the Sony DVP-CX985V and the Sony 777es? Are they actually different units or is the 777es just a rebadged unit with a higher price?

Hi there

has any body got any thoughts or advice about the Sony DVP-CX777ES i'm just about to purchase one from a supplier in the states, already purchased one from a supplier in the UK that had it shipped by snail mail, turned up full of dents and making a racket when i tried to get it working(gone back for a credit) saved about £300 dollars buying direct.

thanks

Paul.
