They (Amazon, et al) keep changing dates, so the rumors keep changing, too. I was getting info from DVD websites, but that is now a couple weeks old. Plus, Samsung has apparently been asked several times in the last few days about their timing and they keep guaranteeing the 25th, like the videobusiness link above. So it looks like June is still on.

Sony just announced several titles will be pushed back to July, though.

that is why you need to be careful how you post. You said it was official and that was why we all asked for proof.

And that's why I changed my tune, when there was none.

This sounds official. Samsungs website:

says they have begun to ship the BD-P1000. The 25th of this month may just be a reality.

People have been claiming they got them. There's a bizarre story of someone being chased out of BB after paying for his on AVS Forum.

They're definitely out there. A couple of people I know have gotten them from Circuit City Online already. My local Best Buy says they'll have four available Sunday.

I'll be real interested to see how these machines shake out over the next couple of days. Considering the quality of their DVD drives, Samsung really wouldn't be my first choice for a BD drive.

This has got to be a big embarrasment to Sony. A company known for discount store DVD players has beaten them to market on a format they spearheaded.

I agree. That has to be a huge embarrasment.
Maybe Samsung paid Sony to be the first to release the BD.

The whole thing ought to be considered an embarrassment. Not that Samsung beat them to release date. But that they can't get dual layer discs working, there are NO Bluray players announced with any support for the 3 new surround codecs, the first discs are basically damaged goods since their first gen encoder is so bad, etc.
