Does anyone know if this model will output digital audio and R/L stereo audio at the same time? Or if it will output progressive component video and composite at the same time? I recall the previous model, the DVP-CX985, would shut off the R/L audio outputs if you selected digital audio. I also seem to recall that choosing progressive scan shut off the composite and S-video outputs.

I am helping someone that wants to use this model in their theater and share it for distribution to a couple of other TVs in the house. This application needs progressive component video & digital audio for the theater and composite video & R/L audio for distribution.

Thanks!

Hello there,

As an owner of a DVP - CX995V I would strongly recommend against purchasing it until Sony fix at least a few of its major flaws.

My machine is on its way back to Sony for a FREE replacement, yes I said FREE and you know that for Sony to do this there have been significant complaints and returns and I have had most of them.

The most annoying flaw with this changer is that it loses memory if it is unplugged or loses power for as little as 10 minutes and let me tell you that sitting down with a keyboard to type in everything for 390 discs sucks and I have had to do this three times (in 4 months) to date because even though the machine recognizes original discs, it does not recognize copies as well as added info that you have to type in manually suxh as the stars and movie genre etc.

Last and by no means least the main reason for sending the 995 back was that on Wednesday it stopped picking up discs and the carousel started ratchetting so i took off the cover to find a disc laying sideways along side the carousell and the small PLASTIC claws that grab the discs from said carousel were both snapped off and this would be because of the cheap paper thin material that they are made from.

So, Sony is replacing the unit but i have read in other forums that people are getting two replacements and then Sony offer a full refund which i will take unless they have fixed a few of its major Idiosyncrasies and start using better materials.

It does make a good place to store 400 dvd's however and my wife is much happier now that it is there instead of 400 dvd covers... lol.

Good luck,
Doug.

i havent had any problems at with any of my 3 changers and they all work great....i would strongly suggest investing in URC's MX-3000 remote and the DMX-3000 software for cataloging your movies..its more effective and you will never lose youy data stored...works great!!!

I have the DVP-CX985 with progressive scan and raw bitstream enabled with the composite video and analog audio still in working order. I am doing the exact same thing you are trying to do with no problems.
Good Luck

Yes , you can use both at the same time.

Yes , you can use both at the same time + it has HDMI out.

BUT , be carefull , because mine CX995V lost today all memory. I did not believe , when I red about it on this forum , but after half year with no problem , here I go . I can retype about 350 names ...... again. I did not have mechanical problem yet, but software in this machine suck.
MX-3000 is solution , BUT you have to pay $1000 plus programing , I guess , this is not really cheap solution. I would rather have product , what works without these stupid problems.... I would not recommend this product. Rob

I have the MX-3000 to control my CX995V without any problems. I've generated thumbnails of each DVD and if I want to watch a DVD, I scroll through the thumbnails until something strikes my fancy. I hit the thumbnail and the MX-3000 takes it from there.

I usually download the covers (if not available, I scan them), resize them in ThumbsPlus (almost any graphics that can run a batch will do the job). I've got my macro programmed so all I have to do is enter the slot number for each thumbnail while editing on my PC. So no way I'm spending the $$$ on the DMX-3000 software. Nothing wrong with it, I just don't need it.

if you dont want to invest in countless hours programming and scanning dvd covers then having to resize them....WAYYY....tooo much time... if you can afford the mx-3000 then spend the 100 bucks for the dmx software you also get genre browsing...its 1000 times faster then creating your own thumbnails!

Not that much work really. I programmed the macro once and usually have my images of DVD covers from DVD profiler (and a macro in Thumbs Plus to resize images from DVD profiler). If DVD Profiler doesn't have the image then I would be scanning and submitting it to them anyway. With an organized workflow, it doesn't take that long to update the MX-3000. LOL, it's DVD Profiler that is the time consumming step with new DVDs. :-)

Genre browsing is not that big a deal to me and I move thumbnails from page to page to organize them as I like.

Hey there. I own 2 of these units, and have help install over 6 now. FOr the money it can not be beat. I have not experianced any memory loss issue either. However this might be a result of having EVERY thing plugged into a Power conditioner, and then that power conditioner blugged into a UPS. So that might help those who have power related memory drops. Good luck.

Hi JustPlainDon

I would love to know how you set up your Sony 995V and MX3000 to select videos via thumbnails. I have the MX3000 and DMX Sw... everything cataloged.

What sequence do you use to select DVD directly from MX3000?

Hey psteven,

Doesn't sound like you need my set up since you have the DMX software. I have DVD Profiler, but not the DMX software (which is very good software BTW). After I enter new DVD titles in DVD Profiler, write the unit and slot number on the DVD and sometimes scan covers if they are not available online, I launch Thumbs Plus. I go to the location on my hard drive where the larger images for DVD Profiler are stored (C:\Program Files\InterVocative Software\DVD Profiler\IMAGES). My images are sorted by date so I head directly to the end. I select those images of DVDs that I just entered and run a macro that creates thumbnails (81x117) and saves them in a differnt folder (doesn't matter where as long as you know where it is).

Now I launch MX3000 editor software. I have a "device" set up called "DVD Catalog". Each page consists of 8 images. To make life simple, I have a hidden blank page with 2 blank thumbnails (one for DVD unit 1 and one for DVD unit 2). Each thumbnail has 3 parts. A call for the macro necessary for my system to get to the point of proper input selection for the TV & inputting the slot number on the correct DVD jukebox, the inputting of the slot number and a call for the macro to complete selecting the DVD you want to watch and switching to the proper DVD unit's control page. So I copy a blank thumbnail (making sure the thumbnail is for player 1 or 2) from the hidden page and paste it where I want it. I then select the image from my newly created thumbnail gallery to replace the blank image. I edit the numbers to match the slot I'm using. I'm done except for clean up (you can easily write a batch file to delete all the images from your thumbnail gallery to clean it up so you only have new images when you are adding new thumbnails). I then save and download to my MX-3000.

It sounds a lot more cumbersome than it is. Once you do it a few times it gets easier and you can streamline it. As I've said before my most time consuming task is to enter the DVD into the DVD Profiler software. If you like I can send you a screen grab of a typical DVD Catalog page along with code for the thumbnail.

But if you already have the DMX software you definitely do not need my technique as the software does it for you.
