Today is the day the Toshiba players hit the shelves. Sears, Best Buy and Wal-Mart supposedly have them. I would never buy one from Wal-Mart. And Best Buy is iffy. Sears would be ok, althought most of the salespeople know nothing about electronics. Which can also be said about BB and WM. I'm headed out the door to see if Wal-Mart has a demo going. Anyone buy one yet?

If you know what you want to buy, why is the store personnel's knowledge important?
Oh, no, I haven't.

No. I haven't bought one either. And I don't plan to any time soon. I will however jump on the bandwagon when and if they decidie on a standard or make a very good multi-format player that plays everything under the sun including all 250 of my high res DVD-A SACDs, and DualDisks. I really hate DualDisk but when it has a 5.1 advanced resolution track that's not available in SACD or DVD-A I buy it if I like the album and artist.

Oh, no, I haven't. Since there are only 2 models out so far it is easy to figure out what I want. But that doesn't mean I won't have a few questions when I get there. Wal-Mart did not have the Toshiba HD-A1, which is the one I want. No Best Buy here. Never made it to Sears. I'm not necessarily ready to buy right now. But I would like to see a display model set up.

Nope. Not gonna, either. They are essentially the same machine. Only better build and a couple less significant features distinguish the X for $300 more. They couldn't even be bothered to put in a 7.1 output. The new codecs are 7.1, not 5.1.

Nope - haven't bought one... won't any time soon - not for the next several years, at least. Too many other things to spend money on... like the new roof needed for my house.

Nope, I won't buy one untill they are sure which format will absolutley win. and also, the HD-DVD is the same thickness as my DVD recorder with HDD and same width, but only PLAYS HD-DVD. It would have been better if it was thinner

What you should choose does not end in the here and now, but how much you want to deal with it in the futre |

Blu Ray will win, just give it time. He who shows his hand first, generally loses.

You mean one that plays both formats? I think LG is working on one. LG and Samsung have both looked into it. There are legal issues with putting both technologies into one box. Samsung has pulled back, and LG hasn't said anything definite. It may be awhile. Personally, I want a Denon with at least the capabilities of my 2900, with BD/HDDVD added before I get serious.

I'm also thinking by the time a high quality player (like the Denon) comes out maybe the format war will be over and I can buy a single format player. Could be this war may last a long time though. I would like it to end this year.
