I am wondering if there is anyone else out there who has worked with the Dell 42" plasma. I installed one for a customer and am running into a problem getting it to work with a Universal Remote MX-850 and a 250 RF base station. The Dell is in the Universal Remote Data Base, and it shows descrete power on and off Commands. I cant get the dell to respond to the power commands. I tried learning them from the dell remote, but all I can get the plasma to do is turn off. It wont power on from the MX-850. any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong? or way to work around this?

Yeah. Look into the class action lawsuit being formed against Dell because of the low quality of their plasma line. Obviously, I wish you the best but, I fear the worst. Sorry I can't help w/ the codes.

Checked my e-mail today..one from Sams club..They NOW a Dell Store..everything dell has it looks like..things dont seem to be discounted at least..i like my Dell PCs and hope this isnt a indication of how Gateway went..ive learned that the electronics at Sams are close outs and discontinued things..learned that the hard way..Phillips Plasma..YUCK..Thank god it broke so quickly and they took it back..anyway, im hoping Dell gets out of H/T and continues to make good and reasonable computers!..just my 2 cents...

I got my Pioneer 43 inch Plasma from SAMS almost a year ago and have been happy with it. The only complaint I have is that they didn't have the 50 inch version.

The Pioneer help line sucks however. Luckily I have not had to ask a lot of questions.

My choices were pretty much narrowed down to the Dell and Pioneer.

Good luck with the Dell and the discrete issue.

BTW - how did you learn from the Dell remote? Does it have a discrete on and a discrete off located on the Dell remote?

Forgive me but a tyro's view is

On the Dell remote, is their separate power on/off buttons?

If no - 90%+ chance there are no discreets
If yes - 90%+ chance there are discreets

I am going to presume there are not discreets.

1st item: does the supplied remote correctly control power?

We will presume yes
2nd item: I am not as familiar with the mx-850, but have successively programmed many a TOAD in Pronto. Can you specifically subscribe to the fact that the code was learned correctly?

I ask as at least in Pronto macro world, I need to allow for "incindental" various power on/off functions in a time allotment. (IE: My Denon needs 2 secs to recognize a power on/off function before executing other macro based functions to that component).

View it as Apollo 13, its not what you turn on, but in what sequenece and how.
