I got this sequence to work... (most of the time) . Entering each command manually does work perfectly.... setting them to a few macros (before, #, after) as in the DMX-3000 example also works, but it seems inconsistant to me. Three out of four times it works. Then, ocasionally, it gets confused and stops. Should there be (longer) delays set between commands? If so, how long? Anyone got a bullet-proof sequence for selecting discs?

Also... the scrolling command for "display" are erratic. I Hit "disp" to bring up the display mode, but then I have to hit "disp" twice more to get the display to go away while the movie runs. Any discrete way to closing that menu?

Thanks much.

To review...
When a disc is playing there are two display menus available. When a disc is stopped there is only one. As such, the only way to ensure via a macro that the display menu is exited out of cleanly each time is to first ensure the changer is not actively playing a disc per the sequence below.

Stop (Ensures there is only one display menu available prior to sending the display command.)
Display
Enter
Slot number (Numerical entry)
Enter
Display (Advances out of the only available display menu.)

That being said there are a couple situations which can throw things off. If there is a disc actively playing at a point where the player doesn't allow a stop command to be executed (user prohibited actions such as during the disc startup routine, FBI warning, previews sometimes) you'll end up with two display menus to advance out of at the end resulting in the display menu still being up on the screen after the macro completes. The other thing you need to make sure of is that the current disc loaded is not on a DVD menu. If so, nine times out of ten the macro will fail to load the particular disc slot in addition to the display menu remaining up on the screen at the end.

To avoid both of these potential problems make sure that the current disc loaded is always stopped prior to running a disc loading macro. The stop command at the beginning of the macro should not be relied upon is my point. It's there as a precautionary measure in the event you go to run a disc loading macro and the changer is playing a disc, but you don't realize it. Another thing to keep in mind, unlike the 985, the 995 always begins playback automatically of the last disc loaded when the changer powers up, even if the last disc loaded was stopped where it can resume playback prior to the changer being shut down. As such, 995 owners need to stop the changer from playing the last disc loaded automatically after the changer powers up, otherwise a given disc loading macro may fail depending upon the state of the DVD which is playing.

This is the reason I own 5 of the 985's. With the 985 I can simply stop the DVD where it can resume playback prior to moving on to another activity or shutting my system down. When powering my system back on each of my 5 changers remain stopped at their resume points. They don't begin playing the last disc loaded automatically as is the case with the 995. This ensures my disc loading macros work 100% of the time, and in the event I actually need to finish watching something I had stopped at a resume point I don't have to worry about the disc playing the second the changer powers up. I can resume playback of said disc on my time table, not Sony's.

I originally purchased this MegaChanger and afterward
read all about the frustration that some of the users
had. You could imagine how I felt post purchase I just
had the machine a few days and was already regretting
it.

So what I did was spend the time to load up the disc info
in the Disc Explorer, then created a spreadsheet of all
the DVD listings. With the spreadsheet I sorted the genre
by color and keep the sheet on the cocktail table (for
reference purposes only).

My buddy bragged about his Harmony 659 so I borrowed it
to see what it could do, and I was very satified at the
possibility of this remote. I was able to set this guy
up and import my DVD listing to the remote (a la Pronto
but without the pics , which by the way surprised me completely
-it doesn't take much). The Harmony 659 also uploaded
my TV listings to the remote (sweet).

I've heard alot about the Pronto remote and wanted it
badly, but I just could not justify the cost, instead
I bought a Harmony 880 (with $30 rebate at Amazon) and
had it programmed similar to the recommendation for the
Pronto.

This Harmony remote also allowed me to input my entire
DVD collection to the Remote. It sorts the DVD listing
alphabetically. Except this guy did not support uploading
the TV lising (Boooo!)

When I start the "Watch a DVD" activity (which starts
up the Sony DVP) I have the remote programmed to pause
for 20 seconds then send a Stop command, this brings DVP
to the Standby screen at start up (simple enough).

I previously had it setup to send a Stop command then
Folder command which put me in the Disc Explorer screen.
The problem was that when the Sony DVP is in Disc Explorer
mode the commands are different than when in StandBy mode
and when you load a disc from the DVD listing on the remote
the remote sends the commands and the DVP tries to load
the active disk from the Disc Explorer screen. (Not good.)

At this point we don't even use the Sony Disc explorer.
We search the remote for the DVD and load it from there.
When I get a new DVD I update the DVD spreasheet I created
and reload it back to the remote via Logitech's website.

I was kinda frustrated when I first got the Sony DVP CX-995V
(after reading the negative posts) but the Harmony remote
was able to tame the Sony so I am happy with the purchase
for now at least.

The Harmony 880 remote is NOT perfect and I'm still working
out the kinks in it but at a minimum my family can run
the MegaChanger without trouble. I don't have little ones
(anymore) so we don't really need the pics like the Pronto.

I hope this helps.

I just bought the 880 and even though I tell it I have a Sony DVP-cx985v the remote will not work my unit? Any thoughts

Have you checked to make sure the changer is set to command mode 1 via the switch on the back of the unit? I'd imagine the 880 is going to be using the codeset for command mode 1 by default.

I've been reading through different forums about the DVP-CX995V and the Harmony 880 remote. I've read where people say they've loaded a csv file of their movie list to the remote in order to maintain the DVD library there in lieu of the DVD player itself. I like this idea but I haven't been able to figure out how to do this myself. Does anyone know how I would go about loading my csv list of movies onto my Harmony 880 and then linking those files to the actual discs in the DVD player? Thanks

Someone asked if you can get a multiregion mod for the 995. I don't think you can (probably because I don't think they can be made to play PAL discs) but you can get the more expensive DVP-CX777ES in multiregion form here: http://www.220-electronics.com/ or here: http://www.jvbdigital.com. JVB also do after-market mods. Also, these machines don't seem to be marketed outside the US/Canada, so I doubt you can buy one designed for other regions.

I just bought a multiregion 777, with the aim of using it with an Escient DVDM-100 disc manager product. I did a lot of research on these systems (and server products) before buying. The disc explorer built into the 995/777 is widely regarded as a complete nightmare and it has a reputation for losing keyed-in data. The 777 has 2 way RS232 control so discs can be catalogued and controlled automatically by a computer or a dedicated manager like the Escient. The 777 doesn't have an HDMI output though.

I now have two 995 both made in 2007 sept and they work great but I am disappointed that they will not talk to the Sony TV like the newer Blue Ray sony 300 does. It used to be an easy mono coax for communication with sony products but now it is thru HDMI plugs and not all sony gear is on board yet. Watching an up converted movie with the $350 mega changer is as good to my eyes on my XBR5 as the same movie in standard disk played on my 995 Mega changer. You can't tell the difference. But the machine talking to the TV is cool. NOT worth a $34.95 per disk. When they come down to $15 I will start to buy them.

My name is Mike Kerrigan and I live in Brentwood, Ca. I own the DVP-CX995V and I would love to be able to program it using a number for each disc to load. What a feature that would be for me to have something so basic but to my knowledge is not included in the Sony software. Do you have the solution? May I please use it if you do?

How did you get the door open? or was it just by chance from pushing all the buttons?
