I recommend using DVDfab Decrypter (www.dvdidle.com)
[Go to free stuff-the freeware works just fine]
to rip, DVD Shrink to compress, and then Nero
or Sonic or whatever burning software you have
to burn this onto the disc.

Just curious, why would you use DVDfab to remove encryption and then run Shrink as a seperate prog to compress when Shrink will remove the encryption and compress if necessary all from the same program?

" But Im thinking they could develop it in a different way and like burn something on to the disc that said it was copied."

You 'thought' of this? What if the drive the disk is in is not capable of burning?

Exactly my thought.

And I have heard that Shrink does not decrypt everything.

I'm not sure what this error is, but DVD Shrink is way out of date and many DVDs have a copy protection that Shrink cannot decrypt. This may be the error. I use DVDfab Decrypter, from www.dvdidle.com (it's the free version) to remove the copy protection, then I open up DVD Shrink and use the "Open Files" button and select the source of the ripped disc.

I find it interesting that Video Rental stores resell the rental DVD's. Do they also have the capability to burn the rental DVD's?

m@ndrake,
usually cyclic redundancy errors are caused because of bad media, scratches, smudges or dirt. Sometimes the error is caused when the optical component or a part of it in your drive is going bad.

You indicate "my dvd's". Does this mean you get the error with any dvd you try? Does your PC have a DVD-ROM and seperate burner or have you been using the burner to read and then burn?

Personally, I wouldn't use DVDShrink. I tried it once for giggles and I didn't like the quality. I run Slysoft AnyDVD in the background which deletes the CSS encryption, region codes, any previews, FBI warning screen and jumps straight to the play menu. You can also jump straight to the movie but I prefer the menu. I copy the DVD using DVDdecryptor. I have not had a single DVD that I couldn't copy. DVDdecryptor will burn the DVD and the copy is decent but I like to use Easy Media Creator by Roxio or Nero. Both programs will compress the DVD if you record a DVD-9 to a DVD-5 disc and the DVD will work in any home DVD player. Every DVD movie is different so Nero analyzes each DVD differently to make the best possible copy. If you have more than 1 DVD burner then Nero will start recording to the first recordable DVD and auto select the second DVD recordable if you split DVD-9 discs into 2 DVD-5 discs. I have a double layer burner but mostly use single layer discs because Nero is just that good. Roxio charges for their software but Nero offers a demo and DVDdecryptor is free. Like I said, I can burn ANY DVD. I copied PAL DVD's, CSS encrypted and any other DVD out there without errors of any kind or unreadable copies. This is only my experience but something for you to think about.
