Here you go I have the Stripemaster from www.icos-tech.com/ don't worry about the summer sale, Allan is swamped with business that like you and me do it for ourselves only. The URL go on down to filters click on component input or composite after the mucro all levels like RS and process it comes out as a cleaned S-Video to enter your DVD recorder. I own a VHS E.T. a S-video comes out along with red (right) and (white) left goes into gets the macrovision treatment. :)

You probably won't find anything to download on
the web, & nothing can be legally bought right
now. You can find pre-injunction 321 software
on P2P networks, although getting it & using it
for free would be unethical.

Copying DVDs for personal use, however, is not.
The MPAA has my middle finger in their face on
that one. I own over 500 DVDs and 1200 CDs, all
paid for. My Disney discs don't last long, and
with them sticking them back in the "vault" every
year, I have no choice but to make copies for
the kids to use, while keeping the originals safe.

I fully agree with your Doug, they passed a no booze in 1932 which was repealed, then said no ownership of Gold in 1933 that had been privately owned since before Christ was born, No VCR in 1983 Sony won that right and now another congressman has been bought IMHO to push thru some more of you own the disc but you can't do any thing with it and cross your fingers the "plastic doesn't break". If the discs does break your up shits creek if the disc is now OOP and neflix, blockbuster and the rest don't even have used rental copies to sell me, is supposed to be my problem Not!

There is also another situation that exists, and I don't know if it would be covered by the aforementioned law. I get DVD and video documentaries from a producer who not only doesn't mind them being copied but actually encourages people to copy and widely distribute them. Most folks probably aren't set up to make DVD copies anyway, but I don't believe this documentary maker would have a problem with it as long as it was given away and not sold.

When I get Music, I get it from a DJ that gets the sames songs from [Link: promoonly.com] then click on view listings, I get thos songs every month for free. That isnt ilegal is it? Because he Doesn't charge and its not a file sharing program. He's just giving me a copy of the songs as a friend. Also, if a friend wants some songs on a CD, I ask them for a Blank CD and then burn it for them, that way I dont loose any money, Don't tell me thats illegal. If so, come arrest me I dont care but I dont give out the songs anymore because they all get them from file sharing programs.
What you should choose does not end in the here and now, but how much you want to deal with it in the futre

Actually Spikey I'm pretty sure it's the cracking of CSS that's dubbed illegal and not the copying of the disc, and running your DVD player through something like a TBC to strip off Macrovision isn't against the law.

It's the violation of the DMCA's laws that prohibit software that allow you to get around protection systems that's the problem.

In an industry where a products like Kaleidescape are becoming more and more popular (and more and more under assault), CI's should be more concerned about things like the DMCA or the Broadcast Flag, than some Joe Six Pack looking to make a backup of his DVD's.

If it were for being able to backup DVD's, I'd have had to buy 20 copies of the same damn Wiggles DVD. Instead, my 2 year old can destroy the DVD-R backups while I rest assured that the original is tucked safely away in a shelf far from his reach.

Yes, I believe I have said that before (countless times on many forums), not sure why you think you're correcting me. Except that Macrovision is a protection system. So getting around it (software or hardware) is illegal.

I'm probably going to start using backups for the kids' stuff soon, too. Illegal or not. I'm not fighting through the studios idiocy anymore. MV, CSS, DMCA, and then putting discs OOP. Gimme a break.

I've never read posts by you before, so my impression of the one I did read was that you were saying the legality laid within the coping and not the cracking of the encryption.

The worst thing about most DVD's for kids IMHO is all the damn previews the load up front. When I got Shrek 2 and put it in for my son I had to listen to him scream for minutes because the DVD producers of the disc just had to put in that preview for Madacascar and not allow you to jump straight to the menu.

And don't get me started on the Wiggles..... Fruit Salad...... yummy.... yummy.... ;)

You'd really be better served at something like www.videohelp.com for these kind of questions.

another nice feature of Shrink is the ability to "re-auther" and only back-up the movie content. no previews, no menus; just insert disc. you can also pick individual scenes and make a demo disc of several outstanding scenes from different movies without carrying around 10 dvd's to your install.
