Hi,
My DVD player quit on me the other day. It stopped working during a movie and kept reverting to standby when I tried to restart it. I opened the case this evening to get the disk out and now it won't power on at all.
Have I triggered a safety device or is it toast?
Thanks
Matthew

Should have taken it to a sony authorized repair center. There are many small ribbon cables that connect the inside pieces of that unit. If the DVD-player is not disassembled in the correct way these ribbon cables can tear. Once they tear you are in trouble. I know our service department sees that quite alot from unauthorized people opening up their equipment. We see it very often on the Toshiba portable DVD/LCD.
Sony has a fusable resistor on the AV Decoder board. If the DVD-player is left on, during the beginning menu sequence that repaets itself the lasar gets hot. After a few nights of being left on the lasar will get so hot it will blow the fusable resistor. Sony realized they had a problem and have now change the fuse to a 0 ohm resistor. Just a little bit of information for you guys.
