Easy Question here. So $200.00 $400.00 $800.00 More!

I've Spent $2000.00 Back in the early Days. Pioneer Elite DV-09. Great DVD Player Even Today.

But What's A really good Price For One Today. (No Ebay or Internet Price's. When you buy what where looking for here... You what a Warranty.)

Krell makes a decent deck, but you are short at least one zero.

Still... The $39 Target special is capable of curling the nails of everyone in my house execpt me. I know, I'm ruined. How can TV live ever be good when you never miss a countdown circle?

Best high-end player overall for A/V quality, features, price, etc. is easily the Denon 5900 at this particular time. $2000.

I'm just curious. What makes a $2000 Denon better than a $250 Sony?

It can play DVD-Audio. It has HDMI output with a decent upconversion circuit to HDTV resolution. Better DACs for music listening. Just about the world's best deinterlacer chip. Better build quality.

One thing that neither can do is give no layer change pause, you'd have to get a lesser Denon for that. Silly, really, that Denon didn't include that larger buffer in the 5900.

I just bought a refurbished Denon DVM-1805 5-disc changer with the Faroudja DCDi de-interlacer chip, and the 2Mb memory buffer for layer changes, for only $109. Screamin' Deal! Keep checking their site for stock: [Link: pcmall.com]

When buying a DVD Player the first rule is to buy a single disk player. Put your money into the lazer and pickup... Not the mechanism. We're looking for high end DVD here. Rule Two Buy a Real Progressive Scan. Don't fall for Line Doubling. A true scan of the two interlace frams will provide a better Picture. Rule Three Make sure it play's the formats you want to play... SACD, DVD Audio, ect...

I have a lot of the older large black discs. Is there a high end DVD player that plays 33 1/3rds and 45s along with sacd, dvd audio, etc?

Just thought I'd mention that Denon's layer-change-pause-beater is an 8MB buffer, not 2.

Junkie,

No, but there are some laser players for those. If you want to make sure all your machines are laser-fied.
