Odds are good that the rerelease (if this isn't just rumor) is simply going to be the current lineup split into individual packaging. According to The Digital Bits's rumor mill: We have word from studio sources on that Godfather DVD re-issue rumor that's been going around. There will be another Godfather DVD out next year, but it will ONLY be the first film, as a single-disc release. This will be basically the same disc that's currently in The Godfather DVD Collection, with the Coppola audio commentary. The only difference will be that the film's digital video file is being given an additional clean-up pass by Lowrey Digital. Watch for it in May 2004.

impressive that people could limit lists to 5 (or 10) but there are most of my favs listed there. One that no one mentioned that would be on my list is The Abyss.

That's why I cheated and listed all three Godfather movies as one item.

I totally agree...The Abyss is an awesome film and the DVD is very well done!! Another one I would have to include would be Saving Private Ryan.

swap the buddy-cop flick for, say, alien quadrilogy and you get 16 for the price of 5!

I know; I was commenting on BlueWire's assertion of "...the price of 5". All of the trilogies sell for much more than single-disc movies. It would be more like 16 for the price of maybe 12. Larry www.fineelectricco.com

OK, I interpreted price to mean choices and not money

I already have a nice collection, but if I were starting my collection tomorrow the first 5 I would get are. 1) Lord of the Rings(Extended Edition) Trilogy 2) Braveheart 3) Gladiator 4) Matrix 1(and only Matrix 1) 5) Scarface Collectors Edition
My favorite movies in order are. 1 Shawshank Redemption 2 LOTR RoTK 3 Godfather 1 4 Godfather 2 5 Casablanca 6 LOTR TT 7 LOTR FoTR 8 Braveheart 9 Gladiator 10 The Usual Suspects The reason my favorite movies list varies from what I would consider amust have on DVD is that DVD players are all about the shock and awe of a wonderful home theatre system, which is less vital to enjoying something like Casablanca then to Matrix. I also had most movies on VHS before DVD came around.

The One -Jet Li Requiem for a dream Snatch Friday Last of the Mohicans
Not the best transfers or mediums, but definetly a nice start to a DVD collection.
