The UK version (Region 2) of Something About Mary has the same problems as the Region 1 version of The Matrix. I have contacted Samsung UK (I have a Samsung DVD-709) who and other player manufacturers are now looking seriously into this as more DVD's with this problem are due for release all over the world.

Apparantly there is an International standard and the people that compiled these DVD's have not stuck to this or even tested their master copy on numerous players to see if it works. Someone, somewhere has costs alot of people alot of money.

Todate Samsung and the other manufacturers do not know if machines will be recalled to have the firmware upgraded or the new firmware will be only be available in new machines. As soon as I hear something I will post.

Personal Note:
If I ever meet the idiot that compiled these DVD's or created the software to compile them I will kill him. What moron (besides Microsoft) would let a format go out without properly testing it!

I have just spoken to Samsung who said unoficially that a UK upgrade will be available in the very near future. This is a fault with the people who authored the DVD's as they where not properly tested. An official announcement will be made shortly, I will keep you all informed. More titles will be released with the same problem, but it is too late to rectify them. 20th Century Fox will not be recalling Something About Mary.

The problem is due to the DVD ROM features in that the DVD does not declare what format it is in the proper International Standard therefore the Samsung and numerous other players do not know what the DVD is (CD audio, DVD, etc.). The problem is the same as the American version of the Matrix. In America you can have your firmware upgraded but this is not official from Samsung (not sure what that means).
