Especially, I'd like to get a discrete to put it into Standby Mode.

These use the common Apple Remotes (same used for their computers)? UP, Down, Left, Right, Play, Menu?

RTI Database lists a toggle.

Resurrecting this thread.

Isn't the code displayed above simply the play/pause code? The trouble with that is it's tricky to get the Apple TV to go into standby. You need to hold it down for a while, but too long and it doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know of a truly discrete standby code?

I haven't found any reliable way yet.
There is a "standby" item in the menu. Would be great if we could write a macro to do it reliably. But so far i haven't been able to get it to work all the time.

I know there is considerable advanced control available for it via URLs sent to it over the network. It's too bad those commands weren't available as IR codes.

would a URC MX6000 be able to do something with those URLs since it has wifi?

Here is clean Hex Code of the Power Toggle from Post 3 if someone would like to try it.

I don`t have Apple TV, so I can`t try it.

It may not even work!

POWER TOGGLE EE87 04D7
0000 006D 0022 0002 0155 00AA 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0015 0015 0040 0015 0040 0015 05ED 0155 0055 0015 0E47

I have read there is 256 Remote ID`s is this right?

If so, the code above would be 215.

Cheers
Jason

EDIT.

I see that the hex code I Posted is Play Command as Ken Gillett said in Post 5.

Hi to Apple TV users,

I don`t own a Apple TV, but from my understanding and reading from previous Post, Apple uses a 32 bit nec code for IR.

Has anyone tried generating Hex Codes with the Yamaha Pronto IR Hex Converter and test the them to see if any Discrete Codes are available?

If someone wants to try and does not how to do this, just Post and I will help you!

Cheers
Jason

I'm running a macro via my Pronto Professional based remotes which has yet to fail per placing the Apple TV into "Standby" mode. Said macro is shown below.

Menu // Ensures the aTV is in a state which will allow for forcing it back to the Main Menu.
Delay 1.00 sec
Menu (IR duration set to 3.00 seconds) // Forces the aTV to return to the Main Menu.
Delay 1.00 sec
Select/Play/Pause (IR duration set to 3.00 seconds) // Forces the aTV into "Standby" mode.

Here is a real kluge that some might find useful (I can't believe Apple doesn't make the code avail - to avoid this kind of nonsense - do they ever use their own products?). btw this is far from reliable, seems to work about 80% of the time.
You can create a marco for things like Music or My Photos by forcing it to go up, then right all the way right, then back to what you want.
So for example, a macro for My Photo Slideshow would be 5 Menus (to be sure you have backed up to the main menu line), then 5 Rights (to force it to Settings), then 2 Lefts (to Photio), then 3 Selects (my Photos, Photos, Slideshow), with long Delays (at least 1 second) in between each (the Apple TV is so slow it is painful)
Something like Menu, Delay, Menu. Delay, Menu. Delay, Menu, Delay, Menu, Delay, Right, Delay, Right, Delay, Right, Delay, Right, Delay, Right, Delay, Left, Delay, Left, Delay, Select, Delay, Select, Delay, Select, Goto AppleTV Page 1.

I made a similar one for My Music (5 Menus, 5 Rights, 4 lefts, 2 Selects, no Goto (leaft it there)

If anyone finds a better way would you please let me know..

The duration needs to be tinkered with by the individual user. Just because someone is using a 3 second duration it may not work for someone else. It depends on the IR strength, reliablity, placement, and other factors. Min repeats in some systems need to be set to very high unorthodox values. Doable, but not reliable for assuming it will work for someone else........

The apple TV will go into standby all by it's self if not used, "menu" works as the power on command.

I am not aware yet that anyone has properly identified the actual protocol. it is similar to known protocols but the way it deals with the ID is a bit of a mystery (no pun intended). The only way to determine this is to learn as many paired versions as possible and have someone like john pick it apart.
Cheers

Does any one have a list of the secondary functions?

I am familiar with the combination of button press-n-holds for restarting and unpairing... are there more?

Just answered my own questions... DUH

That's right you don't need to stand by your Apple TV.
There is a really nice feature in Apple TV settings called Learn Remote, that let you use any third party remote which have one unused device and your apple TV will learn the codes from that remote. Usually we are using codes into our remote, Apple TV does the opposite, it learn your remote codes.
Just follow the instructions in Apple TV Settings/General/Remotes/Learn Remote
I am very pleased how easy was to include Apple TV with all my devices into my RCRP05B remote using IR.
