No optical output on new Samsung 75"...........UPDATE!!

We went out to swap a 55" for a 75" and it had an existing Sonos Playbar.
Got mount relocated, etc. and went to connect things and it has no optical output.....
Thank God client bought the TV, Costco I think.
So, the question is- Is there an HDMI Arc adapter that converts to optical to use with this situation? Though I think volume would be an issue as HDMI Arc output will be variable.
Any ideas in salvaging/ using this Playbar would be appreciated.

Thank you "TACOS"!!! The adapter you recommended worked perfect. I reset the TV after connecting all inputs and things are fine. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

That's what I thought. But not sure how the volume use of the Samsung remote will affect the feed to the Sonos Playbar......I don't think it can be a fixed coming out of the "adapter" since it's Arc. It would end up a double volume (Arc and the Sonos Playbar itself).

I don’t believe that’s true. For starters, you don’t have to use the HDMI connector with the ARC label. Second, how are you expecting an ARC handshake when you don’t have an ARC connection speaking at both ends? I think you are just fine. The Playbar does not have any ARC functionality at all, it is IR from your remote.

I wouldn't be of any help with your situation. But, what do you mean variable volume output? Does either the ARC or digital optical output allows for variable volume output? Or am I misunderstanding something here?

The new 7200 series from Samsung doesn’t have optical. I just ran into this problem last week. I used a part from orei that takes arc to optical. It is a little bit finicky but it did work. I think it was actually the tv that was causing my issues, not the extractor. I had to hook it all up then do the initial setup on the tv again to get the arc to finally go through the extractor. The volume coming out the extractor is fixed. I learned the volume up and down from the Samsung tv into the Sonos. The volume is a bit low with it but I was able to increase the source input through the Sonos app.

Maybe I should give a clear picture of system:
Samsung TV with three HDMI's, no optical output

DirecTV Genie on HDMI 1
Apple TV on HDMI 2
Third HDMI (3) Arc empty

Sonos Playbar (which as we know controls TV volume with learned IR)

Question:
If I'm playing something on either HDMI #1 or #2 will that provide an audio output to HDMI/ ARC #3? If so, would it be fixed or variable?

It is not as though you are snagging a line output or an old-fashioned audio output from the TV. The ARC output, to be active, has to connect an ARC input on a receiver or amp. So in that case the TV and amplifier are linked, and volume up on the TV changes the amplifier volume.

Although I have never tried it, I suppose up and down volume on the TV would control the amplifier on HDMI 3, and your IR remote could separately adjust the sound bar, as long as you did not use the same TV codes on the sound bar.

I guess I am not sure what your end result needs to be.

This is why I think TVs should be simple displays. TV tuners aren't difficult to make and if they add a hard drive.....oh, right- they had that.

ARC/eARC, CEC, HDMI and the problems are reasons I think we're destined to a life of frustration, if we stay in the business.

Ok, sounds like I have an option to try.
To confirm, you had to physically connect everything then do another initial setup on the TV? Then go into the Playbars menu and turn up the source

Note....

In general, the arc adapters have a "fixed" output on Toslink. Analog outputs on these arc adapters are variable.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Yes in the Sonos app there was somewhere where I could increase the source volume and that gave me a little more volume.

Ok, then I'll try one of these adapters.
One question- In the Sonos IR learning, did you learn the TV's factory volume codes (Samsung)?
