Facebook Sonos group is pretty lit up.

Forbes wrote a very negative piece about it.

I’ve not had a lot of calls, but my wife says no bueno. 😳

With several features lost to “coming later on” many feel it was rushed.

Biggest issue I’m having is it seems if you update the app before your system gets the latest update, the app can’t find the system on the network and it is a pain to get the system to update after that. I’ve had several calls for that issue.

The volume has a huge lag from when you move the volume in the app to when the speakers actually adjust. So I’ve caught myself going way louder than I wanted because I kept going up thinking it was still to low.

I do like that all the music services and my favorites are all easily accessible from the Home Screen now. I don’t use a nas or storage for music so I can’t comment on that but I’ve read that has been an issue to get working with the new app.

The SONOS app has problems, you say? Perish the thought. :)

Full disclosure: never used it.

That being said, Washington Post has an article today about how gunked up it is after the update.

My recommendation is to avoid the May 7 (and following) updates until the situation stabilizes. It's not yet clear to me that all newly purchased players can be successfully added. Certainly, adding a new unit will force an update.

There was an update to the update that re-enables alarm management.

If you need to play tracks from a NAS drive, use a desktop controller.

There seems to be a period of slow response immediately after a controller is freshly launched.

I guess I'll pile on, but I'm not even sure if it's quite the same issue.

I was at a client's place yesterday to do a couple Eero pro6 from an ancient router, get some new cable boxes going, and check the Sonos that cuts out all the time.

I figured the new network would do the trick for Sonos. Of course, it did not. The Sonos amp is the last gen piece, about six years old. I factory reset it a couple times and it would come real close to getting updated (I though). Then I would get an almost instant error with the update.

These are clients are client that write things down, so you understand the level. I'm not sure if this is just an app issue or deeper. But I guess I'll lean on the app.

If you have any ideas, I'm all ears...Thanks!

Had a client who just wanted to get their S2 Connect and newer AMP squared away for a party next Tuesday. I could not get the new app to see them at all. Tried factory resetting them, still won’t add them.

Took it home and messed around for another 2+ hours in my garage, still no love.

They likely will not have their music next Tuesday. Also, I will not install any new Sonos systems anytime soon. Not worth the waste of time and the embarrassment.

Unbelievable.

Factory Reset is usually a waste of time.

Sometimes resetting the controller is helpful.

The added charm of SONOS marketing to our clients after we have done the work is great, too.

OTOH, one local dealer wasn't interested in doing the installation of three or four SONOS pieces after they sent an offer for a hefty discount to the client and the job also needed wired ethernet to the one that's farthest from the router, a couple of access points and moving said router to a spot that covers the house better.

Thanks for the $800 install, Dave.

Stopped selling their trash when they shut my dealership down during the pandemic due to low numbers, after they demanded I fork over a hefty 6 figure sum just to keep the dealership even though they had zero product to ship due to the shortages.  Why people continue to support this shit company is beyond me.  Just because its "Easy" or was

People talk all day about how you need to be the salesman and sell a proper network, or in the past a real control system and not Harmony, but for years, everyone happily peddled Sonos.  Even when I had a dealership with them, it was really just used on projects that already had Sonos and clients were not interested in changing systems entirely.  It pained me then to sell it.  The company undercuts you directly to YOUR clients, lies to their/your customers, trying to force everyone to buy new gear....  They are a shit company, period!!!!

I got rid of that lag by taking the hardwired Boost out of the system. Your mileage may vary...

I never signed up to be direct because my clients didn't have a love affair with SONOS. Although a few have several pieces, they're all PO'd because of them becoming obsolete, bad apps, etc. I don't want a manufacturer to require me to buy the whole line of crap when I hate some of them (small sound bar sounded like absolute crap when I heard it) and it shouldn't need the hub. Then, as everyone knows, they market directly to consumers as soon as someone goes to the SONOS site and don't ask "Did you talk to a salesman?", as we all should have done if we worked in retail. We got nothing unless the client wanted something that was in our truck while we were there and they didn't want to wait.

I know others who made money with it, but I wasn't going to stick my neck out to support them in the way that they require.

Some users are reporting success with transferring ownership to the same email address. Logically it’s a null operation, but it seems to repair something in the ecosystem. Likely, you’ll also need to reinstall the Apple controller. This will probably force an update, but you’ll go from zero function to messed up functionality.

Sonos, like Bose, never did the CI any favors. I never sold any of it, but I've reluctantly installed some.

I bought a new amp when they came out a few years ago. Honestly a nice product. set up in my garage with an old pair of Atlantic Technologies bookshelf speakers. Sound was great and the app was nice buuuuut... I decided it wasn't for me when a couple of days later I got an email offering me a discount on other products if purchased from Sonos website. I can't sell a product that tries to steal my customers. I gave that AMP to a friend during Covid, and haven't purchased another Sonos product since then.

I'll stick with Heos and Savant music, and Wiim is a nice way to go when you really need to get down and dirty cheap.
