Gear:
Samsung 55” OLED 2022
Denon AVRS960H
Xfinity X1 DVR

Connections: Xfinity DVR into TV, ARC out to receiver

They are having audio sync issues. Unless I’m mistaken, they should be able to adjust audio delay in the receiver or the Samsung.

They claim they are syncing the audio using the Samsung audio delay, but then, “a couple days later” it’s out of sync again.

Is this a thing - aka another HDMI vudu problem. They are too tech challenged to adjust delay in the Denon. I will have to do a service call.

These people are incredibly annoying LOL but I want to fix the issue once and for all for them. Not sure if I should get a new cable box or which is the most expedient approach.

I plan on checking sync when I go out using the apps baked into the TV to see if the sync issue is still there - if not, I’m going to recommend a new cable box and will try to set delay using the Denon. If that doesn’t do it, then I will tell them they have to use a universal remote, so I can bypass ARC. (right now the system powers up and operates fine for them just using the Xfinity remote and ARC which they like).

Barking up wrong tree here?

If it is off today and fixed in two days, you are not going to want to go down the road of adjusting sync every couple days.

Now if it is consistently off, and never changes, that is a different story.

I just explain it is a thing that pops up on occasion and disappears just as mysteriously as it arrived. Not fixable.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

If you unplug/replug the HDMI cable does the audio reset?
If so, then you have a Hot Plug/EDID issue (not uncommon), use our HDM-AIO2 to turn off Hot Plug when you turn off the TV (the HDM-AIO2 does require a triggering relay, if you do not have a control system with one use also our CS-IRKITCCUS for the relay).

Twenty years in and HDMI still has problems that need band aids. That's just grand.

For us? Selling products that are known to have problems needs to be done with a full explanation to the customers.

"Connections: Xfinity DVR into TV, ARC out to receiver"

What if you go the traditional route of cable box at the AVR? You could still use some of the CEC stuff if you wanted.

I would guess the issue is the channel and or show(s) they are watching. What seems to be popular with some folks is the crappy local feeds showing old reruns or the old imported BBC shows on PBS.

Start by making these crucial adjustments on your Samsung TV:

- Set Audio delay to minimum
- Turn on eArc
- Set digital output to pass-through or auto
- Make sure TV is on latest firmware

I bet sync is fine when they use streaming services built in TV but getting delay out of the Xfinity

am having this same issue with a Samsung QN65QN90BAFXZA and a Sonos Arc. The apps built into the TV (youtube TV mostly) are having sync issues but external sources are good.

Why oh why are people still trying to use TV's for streaming and also relying on Arc anything? Get a dedicated player and call it a day.

Time to start embracing Arc. It is generally a great solution in a lot of installation.

No thank you. I seem to be doing just fine without having to use Arc. Support products that actually work and support you.

Hey Brent,

Because of some past observations I've made with regards to Xfinity boxes, I told her to turn off Dolby in the X1 box, and just use the Stereo setting temporarily. She reported that the audio is now staying in sync. Would this support your theory?

I'm thinking maybe they just need a new cable box. The one they have doesn't look terribly old, but maybe it we get the latest one it will have firmware/hardware that won't cause this.

Heres a novel idea: Make sure you can keep your friggin video and audio in sync BEFORE you start adding all kinds of other features you morons!
