Looked at the interface at Cedia and I actually like it quite a bit.

Wondering if people here installing like it or is it a PIA.

Was there an indication as to when it would ship?

Its half baked, and they just now finally added (or will be adding) macros and basic programing options.

I dont know anyone that uses it that actually likes it.

It's not half baked. It's 7/8. In it's specific box, it works great. There are many who use it as their go to. We do too much custom for it to work for us.

Does it work? Yes. Will it do everything you want it to? Probably not without spending money on third-party drivers, extensions, and an additional processor running Simpl.

Graphically, I think its one of the better interfaces out there. Functionally, the UI can be clunky at times. There is still a lot of custom functionality missing. Things that may be givens in Simpl, ELAN, RTI, etc are a three-bank shot while doing a rain dance in Crestron Home.

The software development has been painfully slow and if you want to make a custom 232 or IP driver you will need to know C# in order to use the SDK.

I'm optimistic that Crestron will stop treating resi like the red-headed step child and push this across the finish line, but they need to dedicate more programming resources and hire a few managers with resi install backgrounds to sort it out.

We use it extensively for residential and it seems to be fine so long as you stay in the sandbox. There are a few(were? I personally don't do home) really annoying issues,

Say you had a DM Matrix using 6 of the 8 DM outputs, you finish all of the programming and a few weeks later the customer adds a tv.

You had to delete the entire DM chassis and rediscover it with the new DM endpoint connected. Which of course meant you had to redo all of your routings to and from the DM system.

I have heard this was being fixed but don't actually know if it has.

As a 20+year AMX programmer and now 6 years with Crestron, I can not stand doing home systems, far too frustrating to spend 20 minutes trying to get a workaround for something that would take 10 seconds in either AMX or Simpl.

I have spent days trying to figure out a protocol for devices in the past and while I might get frustrated and could always make it through, The first Home system I did was the closest I have ever come to rage-quitting on a project.

I will say that it has increased the pool of potential "programmers" for our company as guys that would take years to develop into full programmers are doing jobs in a few weeks. Which I believe was Crestron's intent.

The biggest thing for me is the lack of ability to go out of the sandbox even a little bit-

want to send 1 or 2 RS-232 strings to an oddball device? can't do it without a full driver being written.

Same as Vantage . Needed a full driver. Cannot write you own any longer.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

That's been my experience as well. AV is pretty shaky, Crestron lighting and shades are a breeze.

Isn’t Crestron the outfit that pushes out new systems for home type, smaller budgets, then abandons them before long?
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Crestron Home is their answer to Savant and Control4. Locked into a UI / graphics with no customization. Great for single room systems, not so great for 32 zone / 18K square foot mansions.

The Adagio line gets a bad rap, I think, since they DID have some ridiculous components at that time. Like those in-wall IPOD looking things. But the AES and AMS units were pretty solid units. Considering they came out in 2006 and you CAN still service them with current software, it's not too bad. I do know of one that's still operating a customer's house.

And I think Home is actually "Pyng OS3". When you consider the legacy support they've been building into Home (for ex. the BIPAD8 audio switch from 2009), I think it shows that they're at least making an effort.

I think Prodigy is a better example. That stuff was its own line, incompatible with the legacy Crestron stuff (until way later when you could do some kinda janky hacks with firmware). That whole thing kinda sucked.
