Since we've moved to the beach, we have to change all of our info.

Address changes, email changes, etc, etc.

I hope no one hear ever goes through it. Some internet sites make it a nightmare to change your email address. If you don't still have access to your old email address, it is virtually impossible to alter it.

Then it becomes even more of a cluster, since a physical address, and a phone number change each require a separate event.

On some sites, I gave up, so I'll just get less spam now. LOL

Closed a Spectrum account. Closing our other Spectrum account soon, and converting to a fiber source that has higher speeds at less cost. Loving that!

For personal email, I have my own domain and hosting account. I can easily change ISP's or hosts and no one will notice. Same for the company. With the dedicated host, it's easy to have 'his/hers/kids@', 'info@', etc. mailboxes.

I've always been tempted to create a 'spam@' for one-off contacts while I'm researching something. This will avoid my real address from being passed around and give a hint that I really don't want to hear from them again.

For the company host I have a filter that will block messages from 'Dr. Phil' and 'Viagra', 'V1agra', etc. The server returns an error message to the sender indicating that the message cannot be delivered. I log the blocked messages, but they don't appear in my inbox. Evidently, the spammers manage their lists because the level of blocked spam has decreased dramatically over the years -- except for "Military Grade Flashlights".

Why do you need to change your e-mail address- did you actually use the @roadrunner.com account?

I found this-

When I stopped using an e-mail account, I sent a group message to everyone in my address book, assuming that it would go through and they all would read it. I was wrong- should have kept the account open long enough that I would know everyone had the new address.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

I'm still getting mail forwarded from my 'optonline.net' address more than ten years after I switched. I logged onto the email server and set up forwarding right after switching, and it just never went away. My wife still clicks on it once in a while by accident, and it still comes through.

weird.

We did. Now using outlook so we are not tied to a ISP.

As soon as the company can run fiber to the house, we will be done with Spectrum entirely (love this).

One thing that's created an annoying unexpected problem for me is a message I keep getting on all my Apple devices that I have to reset Keychain. I've had to sign in multiple time to get it going. All because I signed out of icloud to create an Apple ID for my wife. When I signed back in, it wanted me to type in the passcode from another device, which I could figure out. Because I could do that, all hell has broken loose.

This is why (even as a young person) I never used an email address linked to an ISP. I have always had a Hotmail account (when it first started) and then created a gmail account and now use the hotmail account for spam sign up that I really don't use anymore. I do have an ISP email account and have had it since being a customer of theirs but have never used it.

It is surprising at how many people use an ISP email account and not think of if/when they change providers that they will no longer have access to this.

I have been telling my sisters to drop their Comcast email addresses but they just don't want to. Some day it will be necessary, then it will be a pain.

Relevant - Apple users

The new Apple Cloud+ (starts at $12 year) now includes domain email as long as you own the domain.
