My first check is the power supply voltage. I carry spare 12V 2A supplies because 12V is such a common supply voltage and 2A is usually enough.
What's the situation with these supplies these days? Has the industry quit making unregulated supplies, or is the issue solved for you by always using switched supplies instead of wall warts?
Let me point out, in case anyone thinks of testing the suspect supply, that you cannot get a reliable voltage output test without connecting the supply, and you can't get to the wiring since connectors are used. It's WAY simpler to replace a supply than to make your very own Y power cable for testing.
