I need to get fiber out to a pavilion. The only plausible course for this is Aerial along with the power lines out to it from the house. Distance is roughly 400ft from network equipment to the pavilion Nema enclosure.

Looking for LC multi mode. None of it will be buried.

Preferably Clearline but I’m not opposed to ordering something premade if clear line doesn’t make something that works.

Order Cleerline's Armored Direct Burial Fiber. You want the armored portion, direct burial is nice to have when needed, but really just means that it's outdoor rated.

What about getting wire from the pavilion to, say, a boathouse?

I'm with him.

This is one of those requests where you've figured out a solution and you need to know how to implement it, but running fiber isn't your problem.

What if there's a better solution for your original problem than running fiber?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

400 is pushing as to what the cable itself will support. Cleerline armored is great but you need to find out if it can be secured via formed wire or wedge clamp. remember to keep in mind snow and ice loads. are the poles being used owned by the client or are they power company/co-op? if so rights of way are involved. i doubt this will work

400' of cable presents a huge load on either end, needs to be strong.

the best way would be to string steel cable and lash the whole way but that could get expensive with the equipment and material it takes to do it.

soooooooo........ here is your best bet!! everything you need including most importantly, information, is here. i have used it twice no issues.

Are you planning on lashing the fiber to a powerline run? Code may prevent you from using armored (conductive) cable. The armor on cable hellically wound, it has significant stretch and cannot be self supporting. A 400ft run would either have to be lashed to a messenger, purchased was a "figure 8" which has a built in messenger or use ADSS fiber.

Private property. It’s going to be run along with cafe lights on poles with 1/8” airline cable for support. Sorry, I realized aerial may not be the right term as it will be supported.

Anything aerial typically requires a guide wire anyways. I just ASSumed that would be in place. 400’ for multi mode OM4 is no problem at all. We pull that and more on an almost weekly basis.

The outdoor armored fiber is fully coated, so there shouldn’t be any exposed metal at all.

However, I don’t believe the 1/8” guide wire will be sufficient enough, especially if hanging lighting off of it too. There will be a lot of sag to that.

Thanks! There will be a support pole every 20-30 ft!

So it sounds like I should get a price on the armored clear line? To cut the metal part of the fiber, do you just use your typical BX cutters?

You can use BX cutters if you have them. We always add a plastic bushing and heat shrink to where we cut. I’ve also just used my low volt cable scissors to score then bend/snap the armor. Then you can untwist it and cut it off.

I haven’t used Cleerline before but I’m based on what I saw on their site, looks very similar to Corning cable we use.
