Customer has upgraded Apple TV to a 4K unit. The system is controlled by Crestron and the video matrix is an older Binary HDMI switch from Snap. Is there a reliable HDMI to RCA audio converter out there that would allow is to still use the Crestron DA system?

I've used the one from Metra before.  As long as you wire to a single source and not to the output of an HDMI switcher, it works fine.

Can't recall if that's the exact model I've used. This one may be a newer model.

I have used the Binary 260 Series 4K Audio Extractor and have had no issues. This unit does not convert from surround to 2 channel but it does have an EDID switch so you can force the device to send the desired audio format. If you want one that will maintain surround and also downmix a stereo output I think the Atlona AT-HDR-M2C will do that. The Atlona is obviously much more expensive.

I've used the Metra parts with no issues, and they work well.

I've also been using this one that I get at Wave. It's kind of expensive for an audio de-embedder, but it does much more, including EDID management, and more.

And how do you transmit the signal?

Try the adapter. I had a 2011 Samsung monitor for a long time. I didn't know where to put it, but I realized that it could be used as a second monitor. I bought a VGA to HDMI adapter and used it to attach a monitor to a laptop. Now I can use two monitors.
If the problem is in the file format, try converting your audio, video, and other files. This is also an effective method.
How long have you bought an Apple TV? The problem may still be in the model or firmware. Try to consult with the service workers. Good luck!

I've had issues with audio extractors being out of sync or audio disappearing (if Apple TV is in Dolby) when using the analog output with an Apple TV 4K.

On some of the jobs where it is less critical, I've set the Apple TV to PCM 2 channel to get around this, but invariably the Apple TV later resets itself to Dolby causing a customer phone call...

Wondering if the Downmixing Ethereal piece has been tested with Apple TV 4k by anyone here...

I ordered one to test but no stock.
