I’m an RTI guy. BEEN AROUND 21 yrs or so. Seeing the old skool way bs the new skool way! To see tech change has been great, sometimes. It also shows u how easy and cost effective aka cheap control can be. Example being....
I’m catching up on my shows today and I had to make a drink margarita between scenes.... T2x remote in other room,
Grabbed my phone 📱 opened xfinity app in half a second and BANG! I hit pause. AND GUESS WHAT??? It executed immediately! Flawless. Why can’t our manufacturers do this.....

Didn't you pretty much provide the answer to what the problem is right in the first 4 words?

Because they need to tell us how great they are and lie about having the best code database. The problem is, we tend to believe them for too long.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

cool. instead of a coffee table full of remotes, you have a phone full of apps...

Your receiver and TV probably have aps as well.

If apps on your phone excite you, its probably time to find a new profession.

But, how is this much different from a custom remote with a bunch of cluttered screens? I suppose that the custom remote will not constantly barrage the user with "buy now" pop-up's.

There is a generation of user who is constantly seeking excuses to fondle their phone. They seem to appreciate an endless tangle of drill downs and pop-up's. And, they don't need to put the phone down, pick-up the custom remote, and risk missing the latest text or twitter missive.

Agree - program for uncluttered simplicity.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

My remotes are truly custom. I have one customer, a control freak in every aspect of his life, who likes cluttered screens and I accommodate that wish. I have another who's limit is channel numbers, Volume, and power.

I get what you are saying we all must do what our customers want. But I still don't get your point completely. There are always ways to declutter stuff and give a simple interface in my experience.
