I have plenty of clients with control system remotes that just use 2 remotes. When they want to use Siri or Roku voice, they just grab that remote and do it. I've never had anyone complain or ask why the fancy remote can't do it actually.

I tell them, sure you can talk to this URC/RTI remote, sure you can, it just won’t answer you.

Did a little basic system with an ATV, Sony OLED and Sony AVR (client spec gear).

Amazingly waking up the Appletv powered on the AVR, landed it on the proper input and powered the display on.

Power off and volume also worked right off the rip.

Was pretty shocked.

My set up at home is pretty similar, however my ATV remote only turns on my LG TV about 80% of the time. Same thing with shutting it off.

WWYD?

This reminded me of 'just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should'.

This, in turn, reminded me of the miracle automotive control advance, the push-button transmission. And I googled "push-button transmission." The first response was an array of twelve photos of the push-buttons of different car brands. Above that were links to Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge Dart, Valiant, and DeSoto. Here's one of the images:

These were heralded as quite the improvement over moving any kind of stick to change gears, whether the standard stick shift or the stick that is used in automatic transmissions to shift among the gears P,R,N,2,1, and L.

Just because these could be gears you could put the car into, does not mean it should be done.

The first thing that comes to mind is that if you're driving along and you have to reach forward, putting your hand behind the steering wheel, and then, either by feel or by looking away from the road, shifting to another gear, then you're putting yourself in a dangerous situation.

The second thing that comes to mind is that if you have to actually read any of those buttons, you're in the middle of having an accident!

It CAN be done. The fact that nobody does it any more is quite an argument for NOT doing it!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I still remember riding in my uncle’s Dodge as a kid. Those push buttons fascinated me.

However, I cannot think of a situation where you would be reading and pushing those buttons while you are driving down the road.

Memories. I wanted the cheapest possible car for a temporary living situation and bought a used Rambler for $175.00. Of course it had issues. One of many is that it had a push button transmission and the Drive button had broken and was replaced by another. Park release button was also missing and replaced by a string under the dash. I had no qualms leaving the thing running at the curb because a potential thief could not figure out what to do. I used it for a few months, then sold it to a mechanic for $125.00. He loved that car.
