So this install will have the following:

Pool House- Sonos Arc soundbar, DirecTV Genie, Sony 75" 950H

Outdoor TV in Lanai- Sonos AMP, Sat speakers in bushes, DirecTV Genie, Samsung TV

Family Room- Sonos Playbase, DirecTV DVR (can change to Genie if necessary), Sony 75" A9G

Outdoor sitting area- Sonos Connect AMP (older style)

Pool Deck- Sonos Move

The plan is to be able to have the TV sound (DirecTV) from one of the TV's connected to a Sonos zone play throughout the yard and house, without audio delay.
We tested two Genies today and it had approx one second delay. I think the audio would be good (no delay) with just one "TV" zone feeding the grouped zones.
My worry is that we'll have a bad video delay on the TV's
Have any of you set up something like this scenario?

Make sure that the CONNECT:AMP is supported by S2 (manufacturing date >= 2015)

Minimum latency between Line-In and output from a player is about 75ms -- regardless of the number of zones. Check the Group Audio Delay setting.

Latency for surround rooms is about 35ms. You can tinker with the Lip Sync in surround rooms to line up with Grouped rooms -- of course this will also tinker with audio/video sync in the surround room.

And, you'll have acoustic delay of about 1ms per foot for distant speakers.

Thanks for the input. I'll take a look at the Connect:AMP to see it it supports S2.
I'm assuming that the Playbase is S2 compatible since you didn't ask about it.
So from your post it sounds like everything in the system has to be S2......

S1 and S2 systems are independent, but can coexist on the same network. Operationally it is not much fun to have both in the same house because players cannot be Grouped, but I suppose that it might be a workable scheme to keep kids and parents separated.

In your system, since there is an Arc and you’ll need to Group rooms, S2 is the only choice. You may need to trade the CONNECT:AMP if it is too old.

Remember that by Directv nature, a mini is much delayed over the main DVR (which is also likely a Genie actually, in about 99% of installs), both audio and video. You would certainly not want to take the audio out of the DVR and route that thru any audio and expect the Genie Minis not to be WAY out of sync. The Minis simply dont sync audio/video with a Genie DVR very well at all. Looks like a best best is to use a Genie Mini audio out.
