It's a Video Doorbell Pro. I got this thing just over 2 years ago when I was going overseas and wanted to see if shipments got left at my house. I have a car port, so there's no weather there - no rain, no direct sunlight. After that trip, it was moved to my shop, where I had it in the warehouse. Again - inside, no rain, no sunlight. It's now dead. Non-functioning and *quite* hot to the touch.

I haven't looked into this much yet, but I was wondering if anyone has had reliability issues with Ring. Trust me, it won't break my heart to have to sell people something else.

Also, any hack for trying to resuscitate this thing?

If it's hot, it has a problem- that doesn't seem like a resuscitation scenario. Contact Ring.

I would double check your doorbell transformer as well. Make sure it’s outputting good voltage.

Does this have output wiring? If so, something could be shorted downstream. Just a wild guess. Disconnect any such wires, power it up, and see if it gets warm.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks. That's what I figured. I'll try those suggestions and see if anything works, but I'm not too optimistic!

The Pro models can be very picky on power supplies. I ended up having to use the same power supply you’d install for a DSC security system, rather than those cheap doorbell transformers.

“Hot” definitely doesn’t sound right.

The Power supplies either need to be 16VAC with at least 20VA on long runs and 30VA if powering more than one.
The power supplies need to have surge protection as well. Those DSC ones are not going to last long. Every time the doorbell button is pressed, it shorts out the supply. Thats how the mechanical doorbell works. Ring sells a plug in power supply designed for the Pro and Ring Video Doorbell 2/3/3+. It's not expensive and most every one of my distributors sell it. its 18 bucks on Amazon.

It completes the circuit from the transformer's secondary through the coil on the dinger- it's not a dead short but if the button is held for too long, it can be a problem for the coil.

Eh, if I remember correctly it’s 16.5VAC 40VA, and it’s been working fine for 3 years so far. The Pro unit I have wouldn’t even boot up on the theoretically-completely-in-spec transformer that was already there. 3 years ago I had a heck of a time finding any power supply that would be powerful enough, and I don’t think Ring was as of yet selling anything themselves.
