1: Are people more and more going with just power to a hang and bang (so to speak) and using Wi-Fi for internet TV. We ditched cable and so far have been content with internet TV services, couple weird things but mostly content thus far.
We have not spun a disc in forever in any room other than the theater.
Seems to me the old saying "its all going to be wireless" we had here years ago has become more of a reality than we ever imagined. We love streaming services for audio / video material. Still love my vinyl but sitting in my listening chair and playing music from my laptop / phone is a blast and have discovered so much more new music and movies.

2: Are less and less people mounting TVs on walls these days, I have noticed more TVs on stands these days, myself included for the moment. Also noticing less mount inventory in the stores too.

3: I am considering due to the room layout in our new to us home, and I said I would never do it, mounting an TV over our fire place. It is real brick façade, not veneer, on the inside but a wooden box with siding on the outside. The house itself is brick exterior. The question is three fold, is is safe to mount a 75' TV using a pull down mantle mount ? How far do they drop down and what model do you recommend? How do I get a power outlet installed, there is 110 in there the fireplace has a blower. I don't have a problem paying someone to do the electrical but want some information. Are we epoxying red heads in the grout or in the brick, there was differing opinions on this some time ago. Has anyone built a frame / bracket that attaches to the walls beside the fire place brick and has a cross piece that goes in front of the brick to mount the TV on and run wires? Said I would never do it so have not spent much time thinking about it. What say you besides hire a pro.

P.S. Have not decided if I am going to run Cat to the TV locations, strong possibility I will however.

More and more of our customers report not having played a disc in years.

I continue to prefer wired networking because it is faster and more reliable for high bandwidth applications. At home my WiFi environment is polluted and 50% packet loss is not uncommon. There is a healthcare complex next door, a multi-unit ORBI on channel, 4 plus other homes regularly on channel 5, 8, 9.

It’s an arms race similar to the cordless phone race. Initially, cordless phones were on the citizens band radio channels and as the band became polluted we opened new bands at 900MHz, then 2.4GHz, now DECT. Each time a new band is opened it is glorious for the early adopters because they are alone in the new band, then clutter takes command. Now, WiFi6 and 5G are the new frontiers.

My customers prefer wall mounted TV’s even if they are hung only a few inches above a surface. I think that there are fewer mount SKU’s in the stores because we are converging on fewer variations of TV mounting points and we don’t need a zillion variations of two skinny rails and two straps. There is room for multiple articulated arms and drop down designs. I also speculate that wall mount is becoming the domain of pros who use different distribution.

i'd bet that the lack of tv mount inventory is due to people already having mounts.   if they upgrade their tv, the mount is reusable in most cases.

Still popping up most tv's on the wall. And yes most of the time the mount can be reused if not in the same room in another. People still seem to like the space savings of a disto room (closet/furnace room) the bulky stuff although still nice for those with the room for it, I have not setup a tv on a large stand or anything like that for a long time. I have disassembled many to take them out of the house though.

There is no way i would go through the trouble of putting an outlet on the wall without pulling at least 1 RG6 and 2 Cat5E or Cat6.

I haven't played a disc in ten years. Every time i test one at a clients house i want to smash it because of the ten minute wait to watch a movie. I may be exaggerating but the ads and the FBI nonsense...no thanks.

As far as mounting the TV goes...it always depends on the TV and where its going. Sometimes a nice piece of furniture that can hold equipment and a center channel fits a space just fine. Other times the wall mount with gear hidden is best. I dont think there is a set trend for this. Whatever you do with them these days they take up very little space.

true dat.
I replaced an OLD Samsung 40" plasma with a new 65" LG. Not only did the old mount work, it even placed the TV exactly where the TV needed it to be, using the same bolt positions. I never took the wall part off -- just transferred the part that mounts to the TV onto the new TV in the one position where the mount would go.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Good damn point! Didn't consider that even though I have been reusing the 8-10 that I own for years. DOH!
