I need to replace an old 60" with a 65" but limited to max 2 3/4" depth, with mount in niche.
I usually sell Sony, haven't bought a Sammy in a long time. Current A8H 65" is 2 1/8" + mount. Don't think it'll fit without sticking out. I don't what Sammy models are good, bad, best, etc...
Are the "Frame" TV's worth it? What are the pros and cons?
OR should just use a good Qled ,etc? What models are recommended for a good, better situation?
I'm in time crunch to get it done by Saturday and the schedule if full. Going to do some on line research now, I'll check back in a while. Thanks in advance for any info.

The frame TV's are good if you aren't controlling them via IP. You also have to take into account the Connect box which is about 2" thick. It does come with a cable that's about 20' in length but I believe you can buy a longer one if needed.

Looks like I'll be installing a 65" Q90T. The current (2011 Sammy) is IR controlled. Do the new Sammy's have an IR input control on the back VS an emitter? (like the Sony's)

We've never seen IR input like Sony. But, 232 control on samsung is razor sharp great

I may be wrong but the 2020 Samsung's no longer have the EXLink port on them for 232

We've done more than several with ex-link including the 2020 Frames

I think the frames are cool but the image quality isn't the best. If you want it for the frame feature then obviously a no brainer. If youre looking for a good TV look elsewhere.

i would agree but the 2020 upgrade to the QLED panel and the dual color temperature backlight has helped a bunch. i think they look much better than the first models based off of the 8000 series LEDs

I did the 2020 QLED frame for my personal home. It's way better pic with the Q-tech added. I also was sick and tired of sporadic control, so, I used it to master a driver for C4 and RTI use.

The IR Control is terrible on the 2020. The Power On, and Power Off Commands are toggle power. You can send out the Power Command, then the 3 Seconds later send out the Smart Hub command then Exit or your Input Command. Then power off is just power command. I use toggles when I don't have an IP Processor. The IP control on the 2020's was flakey at he begging. I usually tell my clients, if it doesn't turn on with IP, then turn it on with the Samsung Remote. It seems like this happens about once a month. Other than that, I love the Frames and we sell a ton of them. Sometimes even with just a Cable Box, or Roku.

I should have specified..."a 232 serial driver"...only serial allowed on our Sam installs.
Art mode ON and OFF have discrete serial codes. Input commands switch away from "ART ON" mode.

Is there an "off-off" and a "really on" command for the frames? off is accomplished with a press and hold on the factory remote.

The one thing I am not sold on with the Frame tvs (other then being a cast iron PITA to install) is the longevity of these things.

In my experience, panels that are left on 24/7 tend to last about 2-3 years before they croak.

I fear we are going to face an onslaught of angry clients in a couple of years when these things suffer a premature death.

Also hope that people don't start configuring houses specifically for them. I have done a few rehash jobs on houses with Pioneer media box plasmas. Non standard infrastructure can be a PITA.

I just wrapped up a job with 5 Frames and I still did multiple cat6 and insisted that power be placed behind each display even though the media boxes were back at the rack.

Also: They really gotta make the media box extension cable connector a bit sleeker. 1-1/2 holes are a PITA as is fishing those bastards.

The frame sounds so appealing to clients. I never fail to mention to them that televisions have a certain lifespan, and if they want to use it as artwork for extended periods, it won’t have the longevity of their last television.
