I spent 20 minutes on chat, then an other 20 on the phone with the same guy.

Currently I have a AB gateway. It has the internet, telephone as well as the MoCA for the TiVo service.

I already know I can put the main TiVo, with the tuners, into bridge mode and plug in my router into it. This allows the other TiVo pieces to speak with the TiVo service and such. (Something the support tech guy did not know.)

But he also said that they would need to come out and install a second coax from the street for the emta and use the current for my customer own internet modem. and have a second account at the house. That’s when I just asked him to have a “tech” visit to look at the current modem screwing up. Because that is when I realized this guy had no clue.

My question is, can AB have a customer owned internet modem and a telephone emta on the same account? If so, would they charge a monthly rental fee for the emta modem? I know at Comcast, at least when I was there, they did not charge for the emta rental fee.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks,

KOT

There are several modems that support emta VOIP Phone service. I use them all the time with Xfinity and RCN here in Chicago.

There was a time when Xfinity didn't approve 3rd party emta modems and they did indeed allow a second modem to be added to the account, but I never saw then run a separate run from the demark. That sounds ridiculous.

Spectrum installs a splitter when the service calls for voice, data and TV. Each has their own tap and it works fine- if the data modem pukes, it can easily be replaced without disrupting anything else which, unfortunately, Spectrum handles by themselves.

Does AB offer a simple modem?

AB came out and before even coming into the house. He had a new and different gateway. After he changed it, I asked why he was ready with it. His response was because with the particular gateway I had, they were having issues with them.

So far the internet of things seems to be fine. However, the TiVo minis are still having issues. But I believe I discovered the issue with them. The main TiVo is actually connected to a RG-59 cable, I have no idea how long though. I’ll be replacing that over the weekend.
