I have a MacBook Pro and have been running Virtualbox for years. I recently switched to Windows 10 as my guest host. I've noticed it's slow, and you cannot watch YouTube videos, and I cannot work on cctv systems because the screen locks up and freezes and I have to shut the machine down.

Does anyone use VirtualBox and have settings that work with a Mac host for a windows 10 guest?

If not, is anyone using any other virtual machine software that does work correctly with no lock ups and good video?

I am open to anything that works.

Thanks.

I've been using VMware Fusion for years.  I run D-Tools, Visio, full AutoCAD, and Crestron software with no issues.

I've seen the comparisons with Parallels, but have never bought in to the competition between the two companies.  This month, VMware Fusion might have the best out with all of the current features.  Next month Parallels will release a new version that bests Fusion.  Month after that, Fusion again, etc.

They both offer free trials.  Pick one and try it out.

Thanks p2p. Have you ever tried to watch a YouTube video with fusion? Are you able to work on cctv systems and look at an nvr with 8 or 16 channels without the system crashing or locking up? I have no problem running software, it's video that makes it crap out. If you can watch YouTube and video works with no issues I would give fusion a serious look.

If you have time try it out and let me know I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I’ve never had a problem watching anything on YouTube.  I do it all the time.  Many times just today as a matter of fact.

I can’t really comment on CCTV as I don’t really do any.

I have a 2012 MBP with Parallels. Speed doesn't seem to be an issue; I use it for Crestron, CCTV and more. It will sometimes run warm though, and the fan won't slow down until I close Parallels. I never really looked into what else might be running in the background that might cause that.

I got that MBP about 4 years ago certified pre-owned from IBM, and it was solid until about 7 months ago when it started acting weird (screen wouldn't turn on, random crashes), and eventually the logic board went south. I don't know if it's related, but I can't imagine the heat being good for it.

So if you find yourself turning up the volume on your YouTube video because the fan is too loud...well, you might want to check that out!

Do you use the regular version of parallels or the business version?

Regular, I believe. No mention of business version anywhere on mine.

tca: You've never really said what cpu/memory you have in the MBP (I don't think)?
