For a commercial spa room. Need to be able to select songs with RTiPanel from a computer hard drive running iTunes (?). No need for streaming services. Want it to work like the iPod dock used to. Would be good to directly access a favourites list or a particular song so they can tap a button so the client can hear instructions that the spa records. Interface must be really simple - song selection and volume.

Can't do Sonos because driver won't allow for search. Can I use Yamaha or Denon RTI driver to search music by Category/Artist...etc...?

Try Bluesound, the driver (V2.20) works very well.

If you need actual itunes integration, Autonomic does it best and has a very nice RTI Driver.

Bluesound has good music management, but your going to need to manually copy music over and create your own playlists.

I see that the Yamaha WXC-50 streamer has a USB input on in that I assume can be used to play MP3 music files. This might be ideal as there won't be a ton of music required and sound quality should be decent but not necessarily pristine. Bluesound sounds nice but may blow the budget.

Is there anyone that has integrated with Musiccast? I want to know if I can create an ipod like interface to select through say 100 songs. I'm imagining a starting menu on the RTiPanel that starts with two buttons - one for yoga instructions and another for music. The customer should be able to dive into the selections like an iPod. The only other buttons I would have are transport and room volume buttons.

Want to use an XP3 processor and possibly a powered speaker with the preamp.

Why not just give them an ipod and airplay if you dont have any budget

They might think that's too complicated. They really want anyone to be able to operate a room ipad to control music only. Figure I'll get them to set it up in guided access mode. Told them I might be able to do it for $2500 including programming and they were ok with it.

I probably shouln't have titled this "Best Audio Streaming Device...". What I meant was best for this application.

Back to the iPod touch idea. Can the Apple Music app be set up as guided access and is there a way to set it up to show only the songs that are loaded into it? I actually haven't used the app in ages even though I have an iPhone

As far as the user is concerned are these fixed playlists? Who builds the playlists? What tool is used to build the playlists?

They are doing some voice instructions about yoga or relaxation or something. Then they will purchase music for background. It's up to me how they are will store the music and what format. I guess it should be easy enough for the owner to edit.

I thought it was a simple thing at first but it's ironic that it's going to require such complexity. I can deal with the complexity but I'm looking for the most elegant solution without breaking the bank.

Maybe I should just stick with a Sonos speaker and a few playlists they can just skip through with a custom simplified interface.

How old are these people, if they couldn't be expected to learn how to operate an iPad?

I have a MusicCast WXC-50 and the USB files sound fine, as long as they aren't low res. This requires .wav files, BTW. The iPhone app works great, too.

deal with the complexity = breaking the bank.

In all my years, to this day, I can't understand why people think something 'easy' to use = cheap. WTF!
It has ALWAYS been the exact opposite. The easier something is to use, means a lot more work and materials went into making it that way. It is going to be more expensive.

Something that 1/2 arse works, is complicated to use, etc... That is what's cheap.

You... recommend .wav files do you?
LMAO

You have never really dug deep into the best ways to archive music for lossless and lossy formats, have you.

If this is just one room, do you need RTI?
An Ipad mini sitting in an in wall dock and either Sonos or Yamaha app?
No need to worry about updates messing things up.
You can set Ipad to wake up and go to Music app so it should always be on the right thing for anyone to use.
Leaves options open for what they want to listen to and when. (USB or other)
$'s can be spent on good speakers and amplification.
Easy to have back up in case ipad failure, someone in charge can load app to their phone too.

So much.

and I amazes me every time someone says they DONT want to spend a lot of money on something because its too complicated.
