I have a Control4 project running 3.x with a 128BPT panel and the HSIM module. There is an issue with the HSIM module where communication periodically breaks down. The client relies heavily on the security integration and is fed up with this trouble.

So, I'm trying to run down all of my options here to achieve the most reliable security integration possible. I understand integration with the 4232CBM module is not supported on 3.x. If necessary, the client will replace the 128BPT with another panel provided that the existing wireless sensors do not need to be replaced. (If more information is required about the type of sensors currently in place, I can track that down.)

A couple of questions:

1. Is there any way to integrate Control4 3.x with the Vista 128BPT other than using the HSIM module?

2. What security panel can be installed that integrates well with Control4 on 3.x and makes use of the same wireless sensors used by the 128BPT?

Much appreciate any help.

I believe the 4232CBM module works with that panel too. But honestly? I think the issue is the ademco panel.

For some reason, control4 wont support it with the 128. I've never gotten a reason why though.

There are actually two panels in the project.

1. EA-1 with a 6' cable to the HSIM, and then a 2' run of security cable from the HSIM to the panel.

2. IOX with a 30' cable to the HSIM, and then a 2' run of security cable from the HSIM to the panel.

The issue occurs on both panels (though not at the same.)

What is the client wanting to get from the integration of the alarm panel? Are you trying to trigger macros? Or do they just want to see status from in C4

All kinds of things. Automatic disarming in the morning (when they aren’t away.) Automatic arming as part of the Goodnight scene. Automated lighting depending on time of day and status of alarm system. Email notification at night if guest house is unarmed. Etc.

Are some of those not working? Or is the issue that they are slow to happen? I put a 21IP panel in my house and set it up to my Elan system, and have tried to automate some lights. But the response is sometimes delayed by several seconds. From what I can find, this is a problem of the ademco panels. They aren’t as fast on communication as the GE NX panels were. If they are really insisting on this, you might need to look at a faster panel.

3.5mm to RS232 adapters have given me trouble with alarm panels.

I've also had issues with long RS232 runs(Over 10-15')

For these reasons, I always run a Global Cache IP2RS232 iTach for alarm panels now. Ethernet to the panel/itach then HSIM or 4232CBM connected right to the itach.

The EA-1 location used to be a GlobalCache IP2SL device. Had the same issue and tech support said change over to an EA-1. Ugh.

After looking into the same issues for my own panel, you might look into the Elk panels. From what im seeing, they have better communication with control systems.
