I’m strongly considering getting an iPad Pro for consultations, etc. believe it or not I still just write everything down, mainly because it feels more natural to me then just staring at a screen and typing things. I’ve gone back and forth on what platform I want, I understand doing a surface would open more options as far as programming goes but I think I just want to keep those things separate.

I used my FIL’s pro and really liked it, I also really liked how the pen felt on the screen. Do any of you guys use one for consultations and the like?

I much prefer my Galaxy Tab to the iPads I had.

Are you aware of a useful (for you) App that runs only on iOS or only on Android?

Network scanners work better on Android because iOS will not report MAC addresses to applications.

In any case you will probably want a real keyboard.

I have an iPad because of an App, but I use my Android phone for quick network scans.

It’s what I’ve been using for the past 2.5 years.

I use an app called MyScript that takes my handwritten notes and translates them to text that can be exported, which I then upload to our CRM database. Also allows for embedded photos as well.

We use iPad pros with the pencil and evernote. It allows us to write everything down and we all have access t it anywhere. it works well for customer notes.

I know, this isn’t for troubleshooting or programming, this is more for notes, showing a picture when needed and being able to use a pen since typing notes feels so unnatural to me.

I think I want to keep my consultation/walk through notes separate from my programming/troubleshooting stuff!

I use an iPad Pro with GoodNotes for meetings, walkthroughs, etc. It took some getting used to, but it’s a game changer.
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

Heck yes. That's pretty much all I use in GoodNotes. I hate going to the onscreen keyboard.

I don't just use the pen for writing text. It's incredibly handy for marking up photos/drawings, creating quick system diagrams, etc.

yes. same. i use my ipad quite a bit actually. morning, i check email, look through various news apps, browse my favorite sites real quick etc. during the day i use it for all meetings. in my book bag at all times.

I also have a brand new fully loaded Surface Pro 7, which I absolutely love, but it is not near as good as a tablet like the ipad.

im not just starting shit but anyone recommending an android tablet over an ipad is a lunatic!! they DONT compare. Common knowledge, the finest tablet in EVERY metric is iPad. period. whether you like Apple or not.
I love supporting product that supports me!

Thanks! One of the other reasons I want it is my CNC machine is coming in a week and I want it to help trace things out too.

for those using a tablet for this, do you have a larger memory device and keep pics etc on it, or use a 128GB (for example) and transfer to something else?

I have a cellular radio on my iPad and use Dropbox for pretty much all company data (including photos.) So, I have access to my entire world from my iPad without any real storage limits (provided there's coverage.)

I use the generic notes app on my galaxy phone. I used to use a 3rd gen iPad years back, maybe just for street cred. I guess it depends how in depth you want or need to get on a consult. I just walk room by room with the prospect and say something to the effect of "thanks, I'm going to take some notes as we go..."
