I have a client with 3 Eeros. It appears the primary unit took a dump.

If I remove that unit completely, unplug both of the secondary units, and then plug one of the secondary units into the modem, will that unit take up routing? I'm not sure if only one Eero can ever be the router, or if it's like Sonos where every unit in the system carries the same info.

Can't find any info on this online.

Never mind found it:

EERO Pro is one unit (aa the same design) and can be router or AP. The Beacon is only an AP. If a Pro took a dump, the account should have the ability to configure another in the same way, but I haven't seen one go bad, so it might be a good idea to contact EERO to confirm.

I had to deal with this exact scenario at a client’s site this past week. In my case, the gateway Eero was offline and wouldn’t come back up no matter what I tried. I tried to move one of the other units into the gateway position but it never came up. The system was “stuck” with the gateway eero as the router and the only way to get it back was to reset/rebuild the site from scratch. Worked in my favor as I installed that site before the pro dashboard rollout and now have it in there for better remote support.

If the site was all green and online, I could have easily moved the units around

This customer had 4 Eero pros and a beacon. Similar to the previous post, I tried everything I could to get the Gateway Eero to work with no luck, including isolating the Gateway Eero and X1 Gateway as the only two devices physically connected and powered, and then rebooting both.

Finally I unplugged every Eero device, unplugged the x1 Gateway, then swapped out the gateway Eero with another wireless Eero Pro unit. I powered up the gateway first, then powered up the entire system and it reconfigured itself and worked perfectly, just like a Sonos system.

With any of the Comcast Gateways, I've found that one must reboot the Gateway when swapping a follow-on router.

They be smart. I was trying to work my way through a rats nest from the previous installer, and thought I had a second pro wired, but it showed up wireless. When I finally traced back to the rack and and got that ethernet cable hot, the next time I looked, that Eero was showing as wired, with no intervention.

World class problem solver for me.

This is what can happen when consumer grade solutions are provided? Just a guess.

Are you in a time zone that's ahead of their business hours?

Wondering why you needed a text notification. Maybe you had not signed in for a length of time? That is not normally needed to set up a new system.

The only issues my networks have are lightning or ISP related issues.

Agreed. Most of my systems show uptime for 300-1000 days. Power outages are really the only thing that causes outages.

A techie client of mine used Google home Wi-Fi, and he could not make it work. He called me out because his Sonos wasn’t working. He had three different SSIDs around the house, and only one was on the same network as the Sonos. He said the base unit was different then the three others that came in the package. One plus factor with the Eero is that all the pro units are the same, whether they are used as root or auxiliary devices.

For test recently I swapped the root and a secondary device in the system, and the secondary device reawoke as the root unit upon restart.
