Good guy and everything and sad that he died so young. Not sure why people thought his drumming was so great. I would agree that his fills are fast but I've always found his playing to be very "straight". Don't know how else to describe it - I would just say straight or predictable or very structured. I've never seen him do anything complex or unpredictable or soulful. Just take a look at the Guitar Centre drum off finalist videos on Youtube. I can't imagine Neil Peart playing anywhere as good as these guys.
Possibly the dumbest post on RC ever....and that's saying something. :)
I wasn't particularly a Rush fan, but if it wasn't for Neil Peart and what he did on the drums, the guys on your Guitar Center Drum Off would've probably never picked up sticks.
They're not qualified to carry his sticks onto the stage.
If music was all about how fast you could go, Yngwie Malmsteen would be the most famous musician in the history of the world, but he's not, because it's not.
Music is all about making the listener feel something in the few minutes your song is on the radio. Neil Peart was one of the best ever at doing that. On top of that, he was playing with arguably two of the best musicians ever to play rock. There are plenty of musicians who are technically proficient, that doesn't make them Mozart or Neil Peart.
Wow... I’ve actually been getting texts messages about this thread, but I thought they had to be exaggerating. . I had to check in to see it for myself. I’ll just say they were right.
Wow...
Btw, please post a video of your drumming so we can compare.
Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.

Maybe it’s just the bands popularity, long run or the songs in general. Hell, I can’t figure out why anyone likes the Beatles.
Was introduced to the Rolling Stones by our babysitter hippy cousin in the mid 60s... couldn't understand all the Beatlemania hype that came about around the same time. Beatles sounded like pansy music compared to the Stones.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.
I'm not a drummer or a musician but I don't think Jerome's drumming any better or any worse. I could make the argument that Neil has at least 10 more percussive instruments (didn't count) in his setup and I would guess that he could do as good (compared to your idea of what is good) as Jerome if he had his total number. I also don't get the flat comment. Jerome's drumming isn't more dynamic than Neil's in my uneducated opinion. Micheal Jordan wouldn't be great if he only was good for 5 years. Neil did it his whole life and why he is probably considered one of the greats. That should account for something plus you are comparing a guy in his 20's to a guy who is much older. Comparing them at their peak ages are the most important consideration.
"Just when I thought you couldn't possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!"
Dude is really good, for sure. However, he's playing for Guitar Center, not for a band that pushed their genre (prog rock) for decades on the radio and in hundreds of stadiums around the world for millions of people. That's what makes greatness.
