Does anyone make a sideways rack? I have a client that due to design issues we only have 11" of cabinet depth. Trying to see if anyone makes a rack where we can put the main amp, sub amp, and tuner on their sides and have the rack pull straight out for serviceability. We use MA, but if any other company has a solution, I'm up for it.

I'm not aware of anything that narrow, but let me know if you find it.

I've got a job that will finish up next year and has a space about the same width where I'll need to stash some Sonos AMPs, cable box and network switch.

Vertical wall mounts are about the only other way to mount equipment that I've seen.

These are just brackets that mount to the wall and provide rack spaces for hanging the equipment vertically.

I assume sub amp and tuner are 1U each and the main amp is at least 2U. If that is the case you could use a 4U "Desktop Rack" and have it sit on its side. If you need more than 4U i dont think you will find anything that will fit.

I would leave enough cable so that you could lift the rack in and out of the cabinet and put it on the floor for service. Put tech flex around the cable bundle.

This one is 9" x 20.75" x 16" :

You may be able to find a 5U or 6U case like this with thinner sides making the overall depth smaller. Everything i found goes like this 2U/4U/8U/16U so nothing at 5 or 6. Maybe you could have a flat steel frame welded with rack rails to make a custom rack for this project.

This might work if the total number of rack units is low-

MA C3 Credenza frame is probably the best solution if you can get away with only 4U AND need it to slide out. You might be able to buy just the guts without the cabinet "wrap"? Might need a really good rep to get you to the right people to make that happen. Otherwise, you could pretty easily attach heavy duty drawer slides to just about any rack that fits in the space. I think 4U might be your limit though with most cabinet, desktop, or wallmount racks. Most have a "wasted" space at the top and bottom which eats up your Us. :)

Can you stack 2-3 tilt-out vertical racks?

Many/most manufacturers offer vertical racks.

Going to modify a SnapAV 8u rack. Cut some of the rails down to a 6u and lay it on it's side. Going to mount it to a board with gliders to slide it out. Truly Kustom.

Yes, sometimes you just need to Macgyver something.

I need to chime in here as this 11" of cabinet depth doesn't really work with my brain.

Wouldn't anyone need to know the cabinet height (bottom to top), width (side to side), and depth (front to back), to understand what you actually mean?

I'm confused....

The other thought I have about this is the heat issue. the venting on an amp isn't at the sides, so stacking on the side will create a heat trap inside the amp enclosure. Could that end up being a problem? Will you be venting this cabinet?

'Kustom'- does that mean you're going to make it look like this?

If the bottom is vented, the top may have a vent, too. Otherwise, active cooling would be fine and those can be 1RU high.

Top and bottom probably do have venting, but those become "side" vents in this case, and that creates a trap at the now top.

I would want something pulling air through, as I think without, the life of an amp will be shortened.

I had a red glitter-vinyl sofa when i was 18. My roommate and i bought it for $10 from a guy that looked like Ron Jeremy. We carried it 8 blocks to our apartment.
