They think Comcast, or charter will be more likely to buy the IP if they dont have to use/buy the hardware as well.

Or maybe they think some of the smaller cable companies like Cox, or even RCN or WOW might make a bid.

we'll see.

They are GUI masterminds that acquired ROVI some time back. You’d see the credits given on STB start ups prior to X1 and others. Seems that the GUI IP is what’s at legal questioning.

Rumors have floated around for years now TiVo wanted to get out of the hardware business. I'm surprised they still have the hardware option at this point.

They OEM for some rural MSO’s STB offerings around here. Would say that it’s not far from sunset on STB’s in general though.

I gave up on TiVo STB’s years ago when they screwed over one of my best clients, and by extension me. They sold them on lifetime TiVo subscriptions (several hundred dollars per box) for half a dozen boxes. A few died during a lightening strike and we came to find out the lifetime subscription would not transfer to the replacement boxes and only applied to the original box. Client has no problem shelling out cash but that just leaves a real bad taste. We ripped them all out and put in DTV purely out of spite/protest.

TiVo also effed me pretty hard on a job a few years ago. The damn “tuner” limitation was awful. Not to mention the system is horribly buggy now adays.

X1 has been pretty rock solid and with CXI I actually push clients to X1.

Their homeowners insurance should of covered that.

Tivo has NEVER concealed the fact that "Lifetime", is lifetime of the box.
