It would be very tight to mount rack shelves side by side in a 36" space.

In the instance, we'd probably stagger them.
how in the hell does ernie make money?

put middle atlantic rack in before the closet system and make them work around it... bolt your stuff to the studs

This is the only way to do it without getting screwed by California Closets(no way they have anything that will support a SRSR). We've been in this same situation using a SRSR, but a different closet company.

Got our carpenter to build a shelf in the desired spot for the SRSR since the guy knows how to build a shelf that would support the weight of the SRSR rack plus gear. Then the closet guys came in and did their thing around the already installed rack.

Closet installation peoples aren't the brightest bunch, and there's no way I would trust their shelf building ability knowing if the rack crashed the liability would be ours.
I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's AV trouble, a man alone.

I know humor when I see it. That's some.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks, everyone, for all the suggestions. I'm digesting.

Does your list mean Qty.3 Cable boxes, Qty 3 Rokus...etc?

Exactly. No heavy amps, but a bunch of small devices.

We tried to get a lower section of the closet for a roll-out rack, but the client is adamantly opposed to this (in part because of the spouse situation), and is pretty much willing to pay whatever it takes to get the gear up out of the way.
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.

So, we wound up bringing in an excellent cabinet guy to shore up the California Closets structure after the California Closets installation was complete.

First, he cutout the sheet rock along the wall just above our shelf. This cutout extended the width of the cabinet and around 8" up from the top surface of the shelf.

Then he laid a 1-1/2" thick shelf atop the California Closets shelf cut tight to left and right sides of the cabinet and butting up against the studs revealed on the back wall. That shelf was fastened to the California Closets shelf.

Then, he inset a piece of 3/4" plywood - around 6" high and running the width of the cabinet - across the studs revealed on the back wall. It's that piece of plywood that holds down the back of our shelf when the rack is extended (i.e when the rack base applies an upwards separation force due to the cantilevering.)

We put in our SRSR-2-16 today. As we were loading it up with equipment, making the component interconnects and attaching the structured wiring, I pictured what a mess it would all have been without the SRSR. What a great feeling to know we did this right.
If it's not simple, it's not sufficiently advanced.
