I have a bid that I'm working on and the client needs content filtering. I was testing the OvrC pro and it doesn't seem to do the job. what other router or apps should I look at?

Were you testing the araknis router or the OvrC hub? The router is supposed to have it.

The hub. It seems to block somethings, but not everything. will the router do a better job of filtering?

I don’t know, I’ve never used it. But I would think it would since all traffic goes through it. I don’t see how the hub actually would block things because it doesn’t have all traffic going through it.

I have the 300 series araknis router installed. I would buy a new araknis router but the 110 is not rack mountable and the 310 is not available. poor planning on SnapAV's part. and there are issues with SSDP. I don't guess I really need that since my C4 is already established.

The 300 is supposed to have some content blocking. But like I said, I’ve never used it. The poor planning on Snap’s part concerning inventory is aggravating right now.

You can take a look at routerlimits. Luxul has it built into there routers but routerlimits sells a box that works with most routers. They have a list of non compatible routers on there website.

I have a araknis router on my home network and have been using opendns.com's home free (for as long as 5 years +) [Link: opendns.com] which works well for filtering by category or by specific site.  Obviously they have pay categories which I would probably do if it became $20/yr.

A whitelist is included also, the dashboard helps to see all dns queries ranked by number, helps to spot the IOT crap phoning home.  My Ring, Purpleair.com particulate sensor and VOIP phone always seem to be top three daily domain requests.  For instance blocking a adserver such as doubleclick will show 500+ blocked requests for just one day at our household of 4. (which is only an example).

Would the OpenDNS home work for a small business?

I'd second the Luxul product featuring Router Limits.

Araknis 300 and newer routers all can do filtering using DNS redirect.
Using the OVRC Home app clients can adjust levels or open it up as needed.
(I forget which 3rd party dns filter site they use)
Technology is cheap, Time is expensive.

There is a small-business “prosumer” option that is licensed per end user. OpenDNS was purchased by Cisco. The business-class product is Umbrella. Also licensed per end user.

Higher end features require client installs for PC and MDM for mobile devices.

I'm not sure what types of 'filtering' you need but for home use I built a pi-hole last year and it's been running 24/7, except when I'm updating white/black lists. It's amazing the stuff you see in it's logs.

they have a firmware update for the 110s that tech support can provide for SDDP until the firmware is loaded on ovrc.

It’s actually for a church. Right now their network is wide open with no filter.
