lol wow! one nice thing about the service industry is it cant be outsourced, and as everyone gets shoved into colleges because "service work is dirty and lowclass" when someone needs their toilet fixed or an outlet moved its going to cost $1,000 because there will be so few people that choose to go into trades.

Its going to flip flop :)

Thanks for sharing the story, thats awesome!

That guy just got everyone in his department fired. They then hired the Chinese firm that he found to do the work of everyone for 1/5th what it used to cost them.

There are 2 parts of the service industry. The stuff you can outsource and the stuff you cant (sort of anyway).

You CAN outsource the manufacturing and assembly of products and customer support stuff like tech desks and answering services.

You can't outsource getting your toilet fixed or your pizza delivered. You need someone local. When i said "sort of" i meant that while you can't outsource pizza delivery (for example) you can hire non us citizens to do the work for less. So...in the United States its very beneficial (for those of us in the service industry) to work very hard at obtaining knowledge that allows us to "solve" harder "problems".

If you wan't to be in AV don't plan on hanging plasmas and installing in-wall speakers for the rest of your life. Imported/lower cost labor will continue to move up the ranks making it impossible for you to finance your life. Product margin erosion and the "google for best price" phenomenon will eventually put an end to selling/profiting from hardware so start billing for all labor like other service oriented professionals do (architects/doctors/lawyers).

There is an entire continent south of us (and a few countries between texas and the canal not to mention the 3rd world countries around the globe) of people who risk their lives every day (just to get here) to come do the "dirty low class work" here because the lowest paid job in the United States is an incredible opportunity compared to where they come from.

And if they come here legally I will bless them.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thats another (soon to be locked) thread. Legal or not they are here...more will come...just like the British, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Chinese, Italians, and Irish (include the other several dozen nations i missed). By Boat, road or air...The first jobs for new immigrants (then/now/forever) are low paid service industry positions.

When my family (100+ years ago) first settled in Canada, they got 160 acres of land for FREE....if they cleared it and farmed on it within a certain period of time. Talk about the REAL definition of working hard. Now it seems we as a society have a sense of complacency and entitlement instead of actually bearing down and working HARD. This article is a prime example of that.

Im sure there were Canadians who made the trip 120 years ago who thought about how "easy" those new (showed up 20 years later) "immigrants" have it with their free land. Socialism isn't always bad. Sure wish someone would have given me 160 acres. My family had to work hard for their little piece of Appalachian rock that the timber and mining companies steal from.

Far from all- many come to the US for tech jobs that pay extremely well.
