Leave it up to you Ernie to "analyze" the literal definition of "species".

I never saw marriage interfering with getting laid. It was the having kids that screwed it up.

A few years ago as a joke I walked into my living room wearing my dog's anti barkin collar... You guessed it... my son who was about 7 at the time started barking very loudly... Those collars are ---powerful! I know, I know I'm an idiot!

Back when I was selling and installing invisible fences I had a customer that decided to put the collar on and walk into the correction zone. from what I understand, it knocked her on her butt. I had it turned as high as it would go and on the "no run through" option which means it kept shocking for seven seconds after leaving the correction zone.

Your son passed the intelligence test. You did not even see that one might be coming. Alas, that is how it is with most parents and children.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

We had a client once with a pair of labs both wearing bark collars in their cages in a bedroom with the door closed. Clienthad just moved from a house to a condo so the dogs had to learn to quit barking all day.

Guy with a skill saw in the hallway for hours... When the noise finally stopped you could hear the dogs whining from the other room. Ouch.

After our twins were born my wife's sister came to visit for about a week and brought her two little yappy dogs. What really annoyed me was when I would get home in the evenings they would bark at me in my house. I had one of the birdhouse style units like I posted above and turned it on with the sensitivity as high as it would go. After about 20 minutes of the dogs cowering and whimpering under the furniture, I realized that the high pitched tone of my oldest daughter (3 y/o at the time) was the perfect sound for setting of the birdhouse.

But the dogs didnt bark any more.

So ernie, did you find a solution to your dog problem? I ask because we just moved our shop to and the neighbor its a dog groomer. and the offices in our place are towards the back of the building, which is apparently the part of the building where the groomer had their kennels

This is exactly what has happened every time i have tried to talk to people about their dogs. I wont bother anymore. Someone else will be the asshole who is complaining about their dog. In my neighborhood in Chicago it never went on for very long. Someone would poison the offending dog if left outside. Same with the viscous junk yard dogs with flimsy fences. The ones that will violently try and get at you as you pass the persons property. All they had to do was scare the wrong kid and the next day.. no more dog.

Now i live in the suburbs. The guy straight across from me leaves 1 dog in the house on the second floor with the window open. The damn thing barks 24 hours a day. I'm going to shoot a video of it when i get home to show you guys. Its ridiculous. They have the other dog outside, the husbands home all the time and he doesn't seem to mind that you can hear the dog blocks away barking all day.

The house behind us...1 to the left has 3 dogs in the yard 24 hours a day. They are never inside the house. They sit at the back door and bark all the time.

I really don't understand why/how someone would put up with that. If it were my dog and i couldn't get it to stop barking... it wouldn't be my dog anymore.

Seeing this thread made me laugh out loud just now. Shortly after making the post above i get a call from my sister informing me that shes dropping her dog off to live with me for a year.

Every problem with a dog you can think of... i have had with this mutt! Jumping on people, nipping people when he gets excited, darting across the lawn and around the block any chance he can get, trying to hump every dog he comes in contact with, barking when hes in his cage, barking when hes left outside a lone, barking when the wind blows.

It's been a long road and a couple of times i have been ready to call my sister and tell her to "come get the damn dog" but hes still here. I am allergic to all animals with fur and a million other things so i haven't had a dog since i was a little kid. Its crazy how easy it is to fall in love with them. Hes sitting at my feet asleep under my desk right now. Hes been here since i got home today. He will stay there until i go downstairs... where he will stay next to me until i get up to go do something else. When i get picked up at the airport hes in the back of the SUV shaking with excitement.

I knew the barking had to stop so i went down to a pet supply place to buy a bark collar. Lady at the register gave me the evil eye and said "hes barking because he needs to run. i dont mean a walk on a leash. he needs to get out somewhere so he can run for a while". She guilted me out of the store. That night i started taking him to open fields near me and i let him play for 30-120 minutes a day depending on how i feel and what my schedule is like.

He doesn't bark anymore. Hes super mellow most of the time. The jumping and nipping are almost worked out of his system. We hold our finger up and say "no" or "down" and he stops himself and sits down. When hes really excited he will continue to wiggle while sitting but eventually he calms down. Its pretty amazing to go thru this with him. Now we can leave him out of the cage at night, put him in the yard by himself and even leave him off the leash when going from the car to the house. I always make sure the door to the house is open and check for other dogs or people before letting him out of the car because i dont want to be one of those idiots saying "i cant believe he did that" when he snaps and kills the neighbors poodle :).

Cool response and great info. That place looks just like the neighborhood that I'm in, except it would be 45 years ago.

After seeing all the good advice, I've gotten busy with other things and never quite got to the tweeter under the eave, which would have been the most appropriate thing. Meanwhile the neighbors have moved and now it's just some yippy mutt about a hundred feet away -- and that hardly matters -- that seldom is a problem now.

Funny thing about people, though -- my gf and I walked over to the yippy mutt's place a couple of months ago, and the owner was just sayig good-bye to some people when we got there. We talked to him about the dog. He very forcefully said it could not possibly have been his dog -- he works from home and he would have noticed. Then there was zero dog barking for a couple of days, and only intermittent barks since. It wasn't his dog, my ass.

Our house was one of the first 3 built in the first subdivision in our area. Now there are dozens of subdivisions with thousands of homes. The only open area left are a few scattered corn fields and subdivisions who started when the market crashed.

We have a huge backyard. Huge to me anyway. Growing up in Chicago meant your yard was about 25'X25' between the building and the garages and most of the time it was gated off or had the landlords dogs in it. Now the yard takes a good hour to mow and its almost 2/3's the footprint of the house. It's still not big enough for the dog to wear himself out. Once i let him off his leash in places like the video he will run in random patterns forever. He chases butterflies one direction until he sees a grasshopper and then he chases it. Once in a while he comes out of the tall grass to make sure im still there and then right back in it.
