A Chinese neighbor will keep them quiet indefinately :)

Hahaha! But I think that's profiling 8-)

I'm so anal about my dog barking that he would probably
just shake hands with a burglar, but if he goes off in
the middle of the night I know somethings really wrong.
He sleeps sounder than me!

EBG,

Maybe you can pick up a cheap prepaid (and untraceable) cell phone for delivering a 3am recorded message of the dog barking...

Perhaps the neighbor will then get the idea.

Ernie, look at www.petsafe.com. They have some solutions

Well, that's funny. The linked web page says it's under construction.

And if petsafe requires the dog's owner to do something, it's probably out of the question. The damn Chihuahua is almost a hundred piercing feet of day and night dog yip distance, which only adds a slightly pleasant bit of backyard apartment echo to an intolerable noise.

I've gotta say, it's really nice to see that I came up with a topic that so many of you can relate to. I didn't even think to call it OT, but I guess if it has to do with a CI sleeping or being able to think during the day, it's not at all off topic!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I almost resorted to squeezing off a round or two from the 7 mag but figured diplomacy was a better option. Luckily for the mutt, it worked.
Diplomacy is the art of saying hire a pro without actually saying hire a pro

That link doesn't work, but several of their products are available through other people.

Wow! This is exactly what a friend of mine did. We laugh about it, but he REALLY did it!! That dog was dead the same day he ate the meat. It wasn't for barking, though - it was because the dog attacked his 7 yr old son and the owners did nothing nor showed any care at all. I can't blame him, but i did feel bad for the dog.

If your friends kid was "attacked" by a dog, then the local authorities should have been contacted. It they weren't contacted, then Dad is a bigger a**h*l* then the dog owner.

Most of my neighbors hate my dogs, because one of them jumped on someone and knocker her down... one time... about 6 years ago. My dogs have NEVER been loose since, and rarely bark. I can tell you that they would find Jimmy Hoffa before they found the person I caught trying to poison my dogs.

Back on topic: I'd be curious to hear how the noise option works.

Our neighbors have two annoying small dogs. The female dog is the main offender, but the male follows suite. When the owners aren't home they are extremely irritating. What gets me, the owner complains about how our gardner doesn't mow our shared patch of lawn good enough, but he doesn't care his dogs are excessively barking. Had another neighbor down the street that had a real POS little rat looking dog that they let out multiple times a day to piss and crap in other people's front yard and antagonize animals and people in the neighborhood. We called the local animal control a few times. Haven't seen the dog in a while. Hope it's buried somewhere.

We have one of these:
[Link: amazon.com]

Works pretty well along with some loud yelling. I then follow every bark with a button press. After a good dose, they eventually retreat inside. Then to come back a few minutes later. Don't think it will work well long range. I usually do this from an upstairs window or next to the fence. The only problem is I forget where I left it when I need it. My wife was telling me there is a model that looks like a bird house that is triggered by the dogs barking.

Gee, it's not like this subject raises any passions, or anything like that, huh?

My favorite urban myth was the story called The Mexican Pet. Woman comes back from Tijuana with tiny dog she bought there. Friend, asking to pet the dog, reaches out and breaks its neck, then tells here it was actually a rat. For my money, chihuahuas are the "Harmony remote" version of a rat.

About the dog training aid:

The only problem is I forget where I left it when I need it.

Yeah, and where the hell is the Blu-ray remote, anyway?

My wife was telling me there is a model that looks like a bird house that is triggered by the dogs barking.

That's advertised on one of the pages linked to in this thread, or maybe it's a product by the company whose direct link doesn't work. I don't know for sure. Can't think. I'm trying too hard just to concentrate while that damn dog barks and barks and barks....

Hey, easy now. I have a fat (morbidly obese, actually) little Chihuahua that I adore. One of the best pets I have ever had. He was a gift to me from my wife several years ago. Thankfully I got the ONE that isn't a yipper. He will make a racket for about ten seconds if someone comes to the door. Otherwise, he's quiet. Crap, he is so cute I can hardly stand it and I will admit to carrying him around like I'm Paris Hilton or something.

Ernie, here is what I was thinking of

[Link: m.petsafe.net]

Turns out their site is a dot net (I had forgotten that). pet safe is the parent company of invisible fence brand. this piece works well. although your situation is tough for any solution because of the distance and the walls. If memory serves, (I have one of these somewhere around the house) there is a test option that manually triggers the ultra sonic tone. So even if the unit can't detect the dog's bark, you could still make it work. Also, I imagine that this piece could make a good starting point for modifying into a much stronger tone generator to cover the range you need
Civil War reenactment is LARPing for people with no imagination.

I agree with the training frequencies.
First and foremost I am a dog lover and it is not the dogs fault that he/she barks continuously. Dogs will do what is natural to them unless trained to do different. The problem is the pet owner and not the pet.
Pittbulls are very emotional animals have a natural separation disorder. They will normally chew or bark unless trained otherwise. I will go out on a limb here and say they are one of the most misunderstood species of animal on the planet.

Work with the frequencies (there's an app for that) and if you cant dial it in then talk with a local trainer. Offer the neighbor the trainers info and prices and kindly let them know there are only two things you can do at this point and you are taking the high road for now. The step you are avoiding involves law enforcement and all you really want is what is in everybodys best interest including the dog.

If you're married and your wife is not the same species as you, you've got worse things to worry about than all of us.
