Having problems installing PEP in Windows 10.

Gets about half way, says it is creating a folder: 'backup' and then hangs.

Have to kill the installer. Can't unsintall properly either.

The program seems to be mostly installed; it runs, but without any database and the import database option doesn't work, so I can't try adding it after.

Anyone come across similar problem or have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Really need to change the setup of my 9600!

I had the same problem with PEP v2 and had to install v3 which installed without any issues.

Thanks for the advice.

Unfortunately V3 is doing exactly the same thing. As soon as the installer gets to the command: 'Create folder: Backup' the installer completely hangs.

grrrrrrrrrrrr...

Any more thoughts?

Did you run the installer as the Administrator? Or if not, did you turn off UAC (User Access Control)?

My windows 10 'account' is an administrator one, so I can't see that's a problem...

Look up UAC and how to turn it off for the install. Even with Admin rights it stills does some strange stuff.

Nope.... UAC turned off... still hangs creating a 'Backup' folder.... oh well... unless anyone else can come up with any bright ideas!

When you open up installed features, does it show anything from philips (PEP2 or PEP3)? I am wondering what it is trying to back up.

Finally, do you have under Services the 'Pronto Data Server' or 'ProntoDataServer'? This is a Win32 exe that serves up the connectivity for MyDatabase.

If you do, consider killing that process prior to starting the install.

Many thanks for the help. I think I need a little more detail on how to check both of the things you mention here.

Open up 'installed features'.... where?

Where do look for 'services'?

Thanks

I was having the same issue with both v2 & v3 hanging during install.
I did manage to get 2 installed by de-selecting the Gallery and Prontoscripts in the installer, however, of course had no gallery/scripts, although copying those subfolders from my old PC worked.

The main issue then was I was unable to restore "My Database".

I tried the running as administrator and turning off UAC, etc, nothing helped.

I eventually fixed everything by doing the following:

- Manually create the following folders:
C:\ProgramData\Philips\Common Database
C:\ProgramData\Philips\ProntoEdit Professional 2
C:\Program Files (x86)\Philips\ProntoEdit Professional 2

(You can substitute 3 instead of 2, or create both sets)

- Grant "Users : FULL permission to this and all subfolders/files "on the 3 folders created above

- Run the install, everything should install just fine.

I now have both v2 & v3 working :)
Hope this helps someone else.

I gave up trying a while ago trying on 10. I created a Windows 7 x32 Virtual machine. It has everything I need to work with my Pronto remote. It's everything on 1 VM, grapic software, all versions of Pronto software and even some tons of images that I use on my Pronto.

It's easy to run, VMware player (free), takes up about 15gb and it's portable. Get yourself a 32gb USB drive and take it with you, work on it where you want or just backup the VM to another machine.

If your OS dies after installing something, your entire VM is perfectly fine and will run EXACTY the way you left it..

You may also find that the installer hangs after installing the uninstaller. This is because it is trying to stop the database service and fails. Leave the installer running and go into task manager and kill the Prontoedit database service. The installer will continue and complete normally. I think there still may be another permissions problem as no Prontoscript modules were installed under my local user directory
