Hi there,

First up apologies if there have been similar threads & questions asked. I have done a few searches without finding what I am after. I like most of us loved the customisation of the Pronto remotes. The hard buttons were also fantastic. I know that there are iOS & Android remotes but is there a dedicated remote with hard buttons & customisable software like we used to have?

Any links or advice would be appreciated.

In the DIY space, nothing that I'm aware of.

Pads and phones are so ubiquitous that no company can generate enough economy of scale to justify manufacturing the hardware. "Can't I just use my pad or phone" is the common refrain. We can spout the benefits of hard buttons and dedicated remotes, however, "but, I always have my phone with me," is the retort.

There is Harmony, but former Pronto users don't think that Harmony is "customizable" at the required level.

If you can live with iPad/iPhone, TouchControl is very configurable.

Not a fan of Harmony, but a lot of consumers like them. I've had good success with URC, but it's mostly a Pro Product. Still miss selling Prontos.

At my own house I still use Pronto remotes. I even have them programmed to trigger Control4 lighting, fans and climate control settings.

JP1 is the most flexible DIY platform that I'm aware of. There are over 100 models to choose from, and a few are similar to some old Prontos. And JP1 is so cheap, even if you try it and don't like it, you've lost virtually no money. I advise you to pick up a Nevo C2 for $16 from ebay, install Remote Master and give it a try. It has a nice mix of hard and soft buttons, nice ergonomics and a good LCD. You can even import all your old pronto hex codes if needed. If that's not enough customization, other screenless JP1 remotes have far more.

Still using my Pronto remotes as well, TSU9600's in conjunction with RFX9600 extenders. Have no doubt I'll still be using them 10 years from now. Pronto FTW!

How have you linked Pronto and Control4? I am looking at doing something similar.

You have to have one of the older (HC500, 300 or 200) controllers in the project. It does not have to run director. You need to put an emitter over the IR receiver on the controller.

You then make the connections in programming using the IR code masks available in the knowledgebase.

Thanks. I have installed an old HC-200 to do exactly this, but haven't spent the time to implement it yet. I was also exploring a serial as well as an IP link between the Pronto and a driver in the Control4 controller.

I do not believe there is any longer a king to the degree that the Pronto PRO was. I am using a strategy similar to Dawn. I use my pronto pro remotes as the preferred TV control system in the master and guest bedrooms, the kitchen and to control the entire Home Theater.

The house is now controlled by Insteon switches with Z-Wave thermostats, so I installed a UDI ISY994 as the master controller. The ISY is completely controlled from my wall mounted iPads, my iPhone, and the Amazon echo systems ( 2 Echos, 2 Dots), so everything in the house, including all the TV systems are controllable by voice or IOS touch screens.

IR is/was always a challenge. I finally decided to resolve the issue for me at least. I have an RPi running a node.Javascript system to send commands to any of the Global Cache devices in the house handling all of that devices protocol. The program runs from simple TCP commands sent by any device on my network. There is a separate Windows app that will take various IR formats and convert them to what the program wants, GC format. A TCP command looks like
DOIR ,, As in
DOIR KItchen TV, Cisco stb 4200, Channal Up
Macros are also handled by a similar command, and response is instantaneous for all practical purposes.

I will make the code available to capable interested parties.

The decision to standardize on JavaScript in my HA work has helped a lot. I code the iPad's using the CommandFusion system which is very similar to what the pronto pro was. A good graphical design/development system coupled to a strong JavaScript engine with a set of functions to do what is needed to couple the screen to the code in a sensible manner. I code the RPi's in node.js on a Windows PC using visual studio community 2015. This allows me to do all my testing and debugging in Visual Studio of any JavaScript code using breakpoints, variable tracking, etc. I just copy the finished code to the final target.

i just started playing with Simple Control. Must say works very well and all units are IP controlled with feedback except for the FiOS STB. Especially like the media guides for Kodi along with FiOS, OTA, Sonos. Thinking this may be my go to from now on, of course will take me time to wean the wife off the Pronto.

I still use the Pronto TSU9400. I use 3 of them in 3 different rooms and have a fourth for spare. I tried the Logitech Harmony. Granted, it was very easy to setup. I had it programmed for one room in one evening. In one evening, I setup the remote Logitech remote and the Logitech app on my iPhone. I did this since the Logitech Hub can be used with Amazon's Echo (but only for major activities [macros]). But, despite being very easy to setup (and maybe something I would recommend to relatives/friends who don't want to spend a lot of time programming a remote), I hardly use the Logitech remote and iOS app.

I still use my Pronto 9400s all the time. I still use it for new devices. It also interfaces with my HomeSeer HS3 via http, so I have full home control!
